My friends are getting married and both of them are in the Army. She’s having a shower that’s coming up however they don’t want a lot for their house because they don’t have one yet and are possibly moving across the country so they don’t want to have to move a lot. I was hoping for some good gift ideas for the shower for the two of them, something meaningful and practical, yet creative.

As someone also in a dual military marriage, I would strongly suggest buying off of their registry or getting them a gift card. We got some amazing wedding gifts, but for every one that we opened came a new thing to cart around and worry about the movers breaking. We’re still very grateful, but it is something to keep in mind. We registered for easy to replace and dourable goods for a reason, and are sticking with cheap furniture just because of all the moving we have in our future.

I also suggest buying off their registry and shipping it or gift cards. I was moving soon after my bridal shower and didn’t register. I recieved mostly giftcards and cash and that’s what we really needed. If everyone had bought physical gifts I would have spent a ton in shipping. I didn’t feel right asking for people to pay shipping either, so we just opted for no registry and had an awesome shower none the less.

They don’t have a registry? That will tell you want they want. And if they put stuff on it that they don’t want to cart around the country, well…I have no idea why they’d do that.
Also, unless they’re doing a DITY move, they aren’t actually moving anything and all their stuff is covered by insurance, so I’m not sure why there’d be a huge worry about them having to move a lot.
I didn’t have a shower though, so maybe I’m giving really bad advice!

Think about restaurant gift cards or maybe a membership to a winery in the location they’re moving to? My fiance and I are opposite coasts, but I’m hoping to move to his with my new set of orders. I was thinking about buying him(/us) a winery membership near him, so we can visit it when I’m in town and such.
