@misstran:  One of my friends PCSed here from Hawaii and said there’s a resort there that is a military only resort.  She said it is really nice and an affordable option.  I am not 100% sure if this is the same one she was talking about, but it looks like you have to be military to book a room here .  It looks pretty nice!  Happy planning!

You should look into the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kuaui. They have several cottages you can rent on vacation right on the beach. Plus Kuaui is thus far my favorite Hawaiian island! So much to see and do.

If you prefer to stay on Oahu, check out the cottages available at Bellows AFB. They are also right on the beach but not in Honolulu/Waikiki if that matters to you. Bellows is my favorite beach on Oahu.. especially during the week when hardly anyone is there! (FYI: from what I could tell by the outside of the cottages when I was visiting the beach, these aren’t going to be posh facilities and a hotel on a regular base might be nicer… But these have a beautiful beach in their backyard. Someone else may have better information about that though.)

@misstran:  I have not rented a hotel in Hawaii before but I stayed in a place at good fellow with my Mother-In-Law and the experience was pretty bad. I am sure hawaii would be nicer but I would have you Fiance call ahead and see what the rooms offer and if there is a waiting list. Goodfellow doesn’t allow reservations until 3 weeks before but Hawaii may have a longer wait list. Give them a ring and find out ๐Ÿ™‚

I would also ask what the rooms are like because the one we stayed in goodfellow didn’t allow us to cook any food in the room (no kitchen).

@MissScarlett:  We passed the missile range facitilty when we were in Kauai and I had NO idea that they had cottages for rent! What was the cost? I might have Darling Husband look that up for an after deployment vacation!

I have been to the rental cottages at PMRF on Kauai—-very hot and remote. I mean REALLY remote.  West side Kauai very hot and dry.  Beautiful island.  (We lived there for 6 years, Darling Husband did a lot of work at PMRF.)

Hale Koa is the huge military resort in Waikiki (Oahu.). Great location near Hilton Hawaiian Village.

I agree that Hale Koa would be a great option for you, Misstran.  My SO has a place in Honolulu so I really appreciated being able to “get away from it all” in Kauai at the PMRF.  However, CharBell is correct in that it can get hot and the cottages are very remote.  Make sure you try to book Hale Koa as soon as possible. I didn’t have much of an advance notice the one time I needed a hotel in Honolulu and wasn’t able to reserve a room (two months in advance). Be sure to have a mai tai at the Hale Koa Barefoot Bar!
