I need some advice in trying to set a date for our wedding if anyone has any related experience:
my fiance is about to leave for Air Force training that takes well over a year to complete, it’s a couple of different schools he has to go through, with some hold time in between. We have already been engaged for a year and were hoping to plan the wedding for next Summer (2019) but are worried that he might not be able to make it due to the training/base restrictions and the wedding date possibly falling into that timeframe. Has anyone had this issue before in trying to plan around the military? I’m curious as to whether they would allow him to have a day or two since it’s his wedding but he has been in the military for 6 years so I know how it works by now, just trying to keep a little hope in getting married within the next 2 years

It’s very hard to plan anything. I can’t even tell you the amount of times Darling Husband has been told that he would have to be there even though his leave had already been approved. Unfortunately, they won’t make an exception for a wedding. He can put in for leave of course, but they won’t say “Since it is a wedding, it is a definite yes.” And there is no guarantee that they won’t tell him to be in anyway.
I wish I could have brought better news Every unit is different though, some are more family friendly and some are more flexible than others. I will send you all my good luck and keep my fingers crossed that you can make it work the way you want it to!

I’m not military, but my brother and Brother-In-Law both are. My understanding is that when they’re in tech school, there basically isn’t leave. Wedding or not, you’ll likely have a hard time planning anything while he’s there.
