    I love real home-made mincemeat pie.  Mmmmmmmmm, my grandma has the best recipe.

    I’ve never had it out of a jar, though.  What does it taste like?

    @PitBulLover:  Sour?  That’s weird…  My grandma’s mincemeat pie is spicy and cinnamony and nutmegy.  It has raisins and apples, I think.  It’s not sour; it tastes kinda like really spicy apple pie.

    ETA:  I’m pretty sure all mincemeat is raisins and fruit.  But I think it’s the difference between a really good homemade fruit cake and a cheap, store-bought one.  Sometimes the original homemade stuff just can’t be compared to the store-bought imitation stuff. ๐Ÿ™‚

    @PitBulLover:  I wish I had my grandma’s recipe.  I would make a convert out of you.  ๐Ÿ™‚

    We in the UK love mince pies! There is just something about making your own that tastes really good too, I bake a couple of batches every year, very rare that last over 2 days.

    My Mother-In-Law loves it but I can’t bring myself to try it. “Mincemeat” anything just doesn’t sound appetizing.

    I had  the jar kind when I was a kid. While it wasn’t anything I went nuts over, it wasn’t that bad. Alot of people call it a raisin taste, but considering that I refuse to eat any type of raisins, I didn’t think it tasted similar. It has a taste that you can’t really put a name to, kind of apple-y but not quite. Haven’t had any since so not sure if I’d still enjoy it or not.

    I have never had mincemeat pie made with actual meat, nor do I plan to just because it doesn’t sound appetizing at all.

    I have heard that the Marie Callender’s version (in the grocery frozen section) sold during the holidays is pretty good.

    My husband ate a lot of those when he was in Europe for a semester and LOVED them. I’m not such a fan ๐Ÿ™‚

    I’d like it more as a pastry bar, because I like the raisin apple-cinnamony taste, but it is just too sweet for a pie.  But a little bit in between 2 tasty crusts would be yummy!
