okay so I’ve been looking at getting an OEC Moissanite as a right hand ring. only problem is that I’ve never seen a moissanite in person and I’ve also never seen an OEC cut diamond or moissanite in person either! while moissanites are still much more affordable than diamonds I wanted to see one in person before I took the plunge and saw that a lot of y’all have ordered moissy’s on eBay for pretty cheap and from what I’ve read they’re usually pretty good gems even though they’re cheap.
this was listed as “off white 1.45ct i1 round brilliant loose moissanite.” while it obv was not the stone in the listing picture, the stats seem pretty accurate.
BUT it’s gorgeous! eternity band is made of F colored diamonds for color reference. excuse my ratchet nails.
i think the grass and trees might have been reflecting a little bit cause you can see a little green on the diamond bands too.
i zoomed in on the picture and there are some very small inclusions. but in person I could not see them because it was so sparkly that if it moved the slightest I couldn’t see anything lol.
in comparison to some other moissy’s I’ve seen online, the cut is not perfectly symmetrical. but it definitely gets the job done. it’s still very sparkly!
indoor lighting. there is a very light yellow/warm tint, but no green or swamp water color which I’m happy with. in person unless it’s up againt my eternity ring, it looks white. if someone is looking to “pass” a moissy as a diamond (esp larger carats) I think that the subtle warmth and the small inclusions make the moissy look very realistic.
and for $14 I am not complaining at all.
now I also found OEC cz’s online. This is a 7mm (1.25ct) OEC cz loose stone for I think around $5? there was no listing picture, it just had a diagram of an OEC cut.
it was also listed as “off white” but it’s actually pretty white/cz-like. I really do love this cut! I know a lot of people prefer a very small cutlet in an OEC, and I think this was made with a tiny one because it’s preferable but I think it’s a little too tiny? it doesn’t look as chunky/flashy as I thought it would. but that might also just be the fact that it’s cz?
obv being cz there are no inclusions (prob some smudges from my fingers though, LOL) and the cut is pretty nice.
overall I’m very happy with both purchases! right now i don’t know if I will set either. I would for sure set the moissanite if it was a little more yellow because I think fancy yellow diamonds/moissy’s are gorgeous, but with it’s size and the fact that it does look more off white than yellow, I don’t really want it to “compete” with my e-ring. but I haven’t decided yet.
the CZ I actually would set if it were a moissy, because I’m thinking I want about a 1ct OEC in and antique rose gold or yellow gold setting, but I’m worried about the longevity of CZ. WHICH I actually anticipated so I had gotten two 7mm’s (1.25ct) and two 6.5mm’s (1ct). I’ll probably make one of the sets into a pair of earrings and maybe use one just a “for fun” ring with cheap settings from jamming jems (sp?) that I’ve seen some people DIY on here.
now I definitely have my heart set on an OEC moissy, just gotta figure out how I am going to want to set it, size, etc.
but in the meantime, I’ve fallen into a rabbit hole. I like gems of all colors, as long as it’s sparkly, I’ll love it. waiting on these to come in, and needless to say I’m a little too excited. don’t even know what I’m going to do with them if they’re all winners, but if they’re anything like the eBay moissy that just came in today, I’ll be a happy camper. will update when they come in!
have any of y’all done your own little ring projects? DIY’s? or have any of y’all gone the route of buying loose stones separately and getting them set in custom made settings? anyone else have eBay successes?! anyone have good experiences with cz jewelry holding up well over time? show me some pics!!
