mamawifeme :  Are you in Massachusetts? If so, MA has a law that protects your job for 8 weeks.  Its unpaid but they can’t force you to go back before 8 weeks.

I wish women in the US received some form of maternity leave. I think that if OP is offered 4 weeks of paid leave that she’s better off than most of us. I’m always baffled when someone is pregnant and they are shocked by their maternity leave policy? How on earth do you wait until after your pregnant to figure that out? I knew the policy during my first few months of work before I was engaged or planning to TTC.

LGenz :  imagine if men got on here and said “if women had to work fulltime to support a family we would all be destitute “. Just. Imagine.

Hunnibee88 :  What point are you trying to make exactly by posting that in a thread where the majority of women work fulltime?

Why are you trying to imply that many women don’t work full time to support their families?

zzar45 :  go back and read the post I replied to where she suggested our species would be extinct if men had to reproduce.

Hunnibee88 :  I don’t have to imagine it, women on average are paid less than men and the issue is even worse if you are a minority woman. Minority women are also more likley to be the primary breadwinner for their family.

But continue to be more upset about an offhand joke I made about dudes not wanting to go through the extreme discomfort of 10 months of pregnancy followed by labor than the way women are treated in the US.

People keep referencing 4 weeks but OP’s maternity leave would actually be 6 weeks, not 4. Her mat leave would run with her STD policy which has a 2 week waiting period where she would either go unpaid or use vacation if available, and then have 4 weeks paid. So it would be 6 weeks, likely fully paid because it sounds like OP does have vacation to cover the waiting period. She could then take up to an additional 6 weeks unpaid with FMLA.

All that to say I agree US mat leave sucks but I think we’re all aware of that lol. I didn’t get ANY paid time off when I had my son and was off for 8 weeks. I went back to school 2 days a week when he was 3 weeks old to finish my undergrad degree.

I luckily work for a canadian company (though I am in the US) so for my next/last baby I will actually get a decent maternity leave (12 weeks fully paid with an additional 12 weeks optional unpaid with job protection).

sarathemermaid :  very random but why do puppies have to bond withtheir mum when they are going to get sold anyway.

favoredone :  I think it has less to do with bonding and more about the fact that puppies (like human babies) need their mother’s milk for a certain amount of time before solids can be introduced. They don’t make breast pumps for bitches (yet).

LilliV :  I am not sure if you were makign a joke with the pump comment or just genuinely being snarky.Hard to tell with written stuff. BUt I am sure even if they don’t make pumps for BItches, they sure do make formular for baby dogs ( and human babies!)

favoredone :  they need to bond with their mom and siblings because that’s how they learn to be a dog. They learn social cues and how to interact. Dogs taken from moms too early can have separation anxiety and many behavior issues. I have a dog who was separated at 5 weeks and change. He’s a neurotic mess and has so no social skills with other dogs even at 8 years old and despite lots of interaction and training.

And formula is obviously not the best or ideal food for a young puppy – its mother’s milk is.
