- Wedding: September 2012
We had an incredible wedding, and it was without a doubt the happiest, most love filled day of my life. But MAN, the time leading up to it was far from perfect!
I want to do this post so I can vent about all the things that went wrong in one place, so I don’t have to keep thinking about it/explaining/etc. I just want to get it all out and let it go for good 🙂
#1 Family drama! I am not going to get into this one, but man, it is amazing how even a “laid back” wedding can bring this out of people.
#2 Car rental debacles. Because of random and horrible traffic and delays, and a family member deciding they were too scared to drive into Manhattan, we had to rent a car to take our decorations up to the Hudson Valley. The story behind this is long and crazy, but my husband and I had to drive two separate rental cars 1.5 hours down to Manhattan the night before our wedding, after our rehearsal dinner! We were absolutely exhausted, but after dropping the offending car back off, we rode back together at 3:30 in the morning (officially on our wedding day!), and actually enjoyed the time with just the two of us 🙂 Oh, we had to do a similar round trip drive the day after the wedding too, and then take a train back down! CRAZY.
#3 Flower death. The day before the wedding, my mom accidentally killed ALL my flowers. All of them! She is usually a green thumb, so I never thought something like that could happen. My poor lovie was the one that got the call from my mom (I was driving), and he was so reluctant to tell me because he knew how much stress I was already under. I had to pull over and cry 🙁 Fortunately, my mom was able to find a local florist to replace them in time, and they turned out lovely:
#4 Inadvertent glasses bride. I love my glasses, and wear them every day. But I wanted to look special on my wedding day, and wanted everyone, especially my lovie, to see my eyes (and the awesome eye makeup I had!) Alas, my contact inexperience led to a rip in on of them, and I was screwed. I tried to find a local place to help (and did), but my home eye place never faxed my prescription over, even after I told them why (assfaces). But it seems like a lot of people, both on the internet and in person, LOVED that I wore my glasses 🙂
#5 Raaaaaaaiiiiiiiiinnnnnn on my wedding day. And not just rain either. A tornado (seriously) with a crazy torrential downpour. It started right after I discovered there was no way to get a replacement pair of contacts in time, and I had a full fledged crying breakdown in the car. My husband was very sweet and comforting, and reminded me that the important thing was that we were getting married, but at the time, perspective would just not come. We chose our venue because of the beautiful outdoor setting, and everything I envisioned was falling apart (or so it seemed). In the end, the backup setting in the tent was just fine, because that is where I married the love of my life! And the rain stopped right as the ceremony ended (because of course!), so we got some pictures outside, including this one, which would have been where we said our I dos 🙂
#6 Side switch :/ I specifically wanted to be on the left side of the alter, because I have a giant, Frankenstein-ish scar from falling off the platform and shattering my elbow while trying on wedding dresses earlier this year (yep, that happened). I didn’t want it front and center, but that is what ended up happening:
#7 Dress fail. I saved the best (or worst) for last. My beautiful dress, which I loved so much, and felt so secure in after the fittings, did not end up *ahem* supporting me. In fact, the boning seemed to bend and warp under the weight of my boobs. Awesome. By the end of the night, the top was sitting WAYYYYY too low. I was not comfortable, but there was nothing that could be done at that point (trust me, we tried!) I do not mind cleavage, and I knew I would have some, but I never wanted this much. *SIGH* This is probably the thing that went wrong that bothers me the most, even more than the sky dumping water all over everything, because it is in all the pictures.
Despite all of this (and more – I just hit the major points), we still had a completely amazing wedding, and were happy as a pair of newlywed clams at the end of the night 🙂 I will talk about all the awesomeness in my pro pics recap (when I get them), but I wanted to get this all out now!
Thank you for letting me vent ladies 🙂 And feel free to laugh with me about how ridiculous things got 🙂
