@NotablySidedJP:  My SO is also feeling the effects…he is getting furloughed. Soooo frustrating! Exactly my thoughts— so much for a ring!

Not so much the effects of the sequestration, but sick of all the costs in NYC/NJ going up (maybe it’s the sequestration, but I just blame mismanaged funds). This past week, our transit passes went up (NYC subway) by $8. May not sound like a lot but it’s monthly, and I have to spend about $100 on top of my subway fee of (now) $112 JUST TO GET TO WORK (don’t get me started on the NY tax implications of working in NYC) every single month.

It’s tough to see other couples get engaged when things feel like they are going slowly for you. Waiting bee myself here.

Honestly, I really don’t see our economy recovering anytime soon, hence I truly believe that now is as good a time as any to pursue your true dreams. I mean, our choices are 1) be miserable, 2) do nothing, and 3) pursue our dreams. Which is most appealing?

I am hoping that things turn around for you all either way.

I’m so sorry. I totally feel you on sequestration. My wedding is right in the middle of it and am freaking out how we can afford everything. This sucks.

@NotablySidedJP:  My fiance I and I are still long-distance and he’s trying to find a job near me (I live in the D.C. area and he works for the Department of Defense, but several hundred miles away) and we’re dealing with it, too. We just got engaged a few weeks ago so we’re about to pay for a wedding, plus he’s trying to find a new job and move to a much more expensive area as soon as possible. He’s thinking about getting a part-time job to try to bring in more cash in the meantime.

I’m with you.  My SO is affected by the sequestration and will have furlough days as well.  It definately doesn’t help with buying a ring but I’m even more worried about long-term financial stresses with it.  I really hope they figure something out soon.  Poor guy is stressed.  🙁

I’d a fed but my department isn’t feeling it – we’re on a revolving fund rather than an approrpriated one so we can continue as usual. I work on an army base (I’m civilian though) and 900 people are being furloughed here! In my area (Baltimore/DC) pretty much every other person you run into works for the govt and are being affected.
