@Aug2012bride: Or it could mean that photography IS their full time job, that they’re shooting weddings every single weekend. I can see that delaying the turn around time. Ultimately you’ll do what you want to do, but just look at it from that perspective.

We asked for an 8-week turn around time for pictures in our contract. It took a little negotiating but we were able to work it out in the end.

Mine took about 2.5 months… WELL worth the wait. Our photographer took her time editing the images and we were so pleased with the finished ones!
ETA: our contract did say 3 months, but we had the disc of images in our mailbox within 10 weeks.

Some photographers will give themselves some padding in their contracts on how long the photos will take – this helps a lot if they get sick or something comes up. They may say up to three months, but they may average 1-2 months instead – you could ask what the average is. Underpromising and overdelivering is a much better strategy than the opposite.
