Welcome to the Hive!  I am not in the Twin Cities, but my mom just moved from there.  If you still need your dress, you should check out the Wedding Shoppe weddingshopinc.com, I got one of my dresses there.  They were great to work with and have a ton of options in all price ranges.

Hey fellow Minnesotan!

Our wedding is going to be around 250 on approximately $10k. We’re still confirming our vendors so I don’t have a final budget breakdown unfortunately.

I would recommend figuring out what is most important to you and your Fiance and building your budget around that. Is it photos? Food? The venue? A great DJ? Ask friends/family for recommendations. One of the caterers that we’re considering is related to someone my Fiance shoots with, and offered to give us a deal. My aunt has access to wholesale florist pricing, so I’m using her discount and putting the bouquets together with help from my sister. Our engagement photos were done by a friend.

Don’t be afraid to ask if there’s a cash discount. Or offer to write a testamonial for their website after your wedding is over. It doesn’t work with everyone but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Give yourself time and do your research. If you can find a venue that will let you use your own vendors, it will definitely save you a chunk of money. We’re having our ceremony and reception at Harriet Island and they’re letting us use whatever licensed caterer and liquor provider we want. Unfortunately I think their calendar might be full for next October but check out city parks, community centers, apple orchards…I think I googled “Twin Cities BYOB venues” or something like that and found a ton of results.

Sorry I don’t have more specifics yet–we’re still getting the details nailed down but feel free to PM me and I will keep you updated as I find out more! Good luck!

I am in the same position.  I am having my reception at The Mermaid in Mounds View… They are very resonably priced.  Carol (event mgr) is sooooo helpful.  I remember the Mermaid from back in the day, and let me tell you this place did a 360 and the rooms look amazing…. We are having our wedding on a Friday (its cheaper) I found a DJ that would DJ our wedding for $300.00, I found a photographer for $800.00 all day.  I would check the Mermaid out…

Our biggest money saver was finding a venue that did not have a preferred catering list and using Andiamo’s as catering. They are located in Eagan, Minnesota and were by far the cheapest caterer I found. Also, our venue let us bring in our own liquor as long as we hired a licensed bartender and purchased insurance. That also saved a lot. Good luck!
