@StuporDuck:  I have a 3 year so I don’t know if it makes a difference. I know a lot of people that haven’t had kids that have the Mirena, had a lot of crmping like the first 2 weeks or so of having it.

I can’t remember having cramps from it :-/ I got mine in October of 2009. I had it removed 3/14/12 when I had to have surgery but I am getting it put back in next week and I hope I don’t have any issues.

The only issues I remember having was pain during sex the first few months I had it. I don’t know if it was because I was bordeline freaked out about it rupturing my wall or something or what.

If it is concerning you and you just want a quick opinion, maybe you could go to Planned Parenthood for a quick appointment? That’s assuming you can’t get into your Dr and you don’t want to switch.

I’m paranoid about everything I think so I call my Dr about everything lol!

Hi there,

I’m about to this the three year mark with my Mirena. I had REALLY bad cramps for the first 4-5 days. After that, I think I had pretty bad cramps at least 1 day a week, but it tapered off at about week 6ish..

I now have no cramps or periods basically at all.

I had the copper IUD that I actually had to get out because of the cramping and how bad my periods pogressively got worse. After my Dirty Delete I talked to my doctor about Mirena and tried the progesterone pills for a trial. We decided we would be TTC again so I held off, but my doctor had told me then that he has fewer patients complain of monthly cramping and that over time most people says it gets better. After I have this little one that is what I will be going with.

Is there anyway you could just call her office and have on of the staff members ask her and get back to you? That is what they are there for:) Good luck!

I had cramping/spotting for about 6-7 weeks.  After that, nothing.  🙂  It’s pretty awesome!

I cramped the first couple of months, but it definitely tapered off as time went on. I only took advil for it the first week, after that the cramps were more spontaneous and fairly short. I had spotting on and off for 6 months- which is normal, but it was exactly 6 months for me which was weird. Everyone’s experiences are so different, but since they say to expect spotting and cramping for the first 6 months, I probably woudn’t worry too much.

@StuporDuck:  I would definately find a new practice. When I worked the clinic as an RN our main job was to talk to patient’s on the phone and to run things by the doctors and follow up with the patients. That really stinks that they don’t follow up with you better.

It was bad for the first month, then more sporadic for the second month, and for the next 6 months it would happen randomly, and now it hardly ever happens at all. I’ve had it just over 3 years and once you’re past the adjustment period it’s the best thing ever!

Ahhhhh, I am so glad I found this thread.

I got my Mirena about a month ago. Never had children never been pregnant. I got the Mirena because I show signs of endometriosis I am way to young for all that lol.

I did a ton of research on Mirena before I got it and concidering I had none of the bad side effects from depo like moodiness and weight gain achne etc. My Dr. thought I would do well with Mirena.

First day I got it yeah it hurt more uncomfortable having someone up in your bizz to but I got through it. Had minor cramping first day got over it. Couple days later had a period but the spotting started the same day. Since my schedualed period I have only had 1 true day I didnt need a panty liner soooooo annoying.

My really bad issue it like clock work in the evening I get cramps randomly sometimes they last for hours sometimes it will come and go every 1/2 hour. These are not like period cramps but from what I have read (since I have never been pregnant) more like contractions. I don’t think it has moved since the strings are still the same length from what I can tell and this cramping thing has been going on almost every single day since I got it.

From my understanding since I have never given birth my uterus and cervics is tight and has not gone through a thinning or however that goes lol. My question is this HOW LONG lol until this goes away because midol and advil arent cutting it anymore and my patients are wearing thin. Please tell me im over half way or someone has the cramps every single day like I am.

This is the only side effect besides spotting every day I have had.

I haven’t had achne, weight gain, headaches. Although my moods are like a tornado calm and great then in a freaking twister but I have been blaming that on the cramps annying me… I am frustrated I also appolagize this is so long and informative but please tell me im not alonoe and it will go away.
