I just switched from Beyaz to Mirena about a month ago. I had previously been on Ocella as well (it made me crazy). I had a lot of mood swings on the pill, potentially some weight gain but I think they are more likely from my eating habits then the pill.

So far I feel more grounded and less like anything will make me cry. I’ve had some cramping and spotting which is to be excpected. I haven’t gained any weight in the past month, maybe even lost a little.

PS: It hurts a lot to have put in, be prepared, have a driver.

I have been on so many different birthcontrols as well. Ortho-high, low, lolo estrine the nuvaring.  The nuvaring gave me horrible anxiety and mood swings.  All of the others game me the normal minor bloating and spots of ance. I recently had Mirena inserted in November 2011.  I thought it was going to be such an awesome thing.  Intially the idea of having an IUD is so worry free, and you do not have to think about it. that is why i liked the idea.  The insertation was painless suprisingly.  The side effects that were immediate were a bloated belly (like 3 months prego), which drove me nuts because i was just prego!  I did not gain any weight, but i havent lost anymore either. My skin and hair were much more oily, and my back and face began to break out in small sized pimples.  My hair loss increased over three months. More in the shower when i washed it, and just brushing it. I have tile floors and i felt like I had to swiffer everyday.  I did have some random periods. The main reason I had it removed is I was super sleepy and depressed feeling.  I went to my OB yesterday and was clueless as to what birthcontrol to go on next, since I seriously have been on everything.  I just feel like my body does not mix well with extra hormones.  I had the Paragard inserted yesterday. It was a bit more painful going in (not by much).  I weigh myself everyday. Yesterday morning I weighed 136.6.  This morning I weighed 134.2.  My “bloated” prego-looking belly is already gone.  I am still cramping a little bit.  I think the paragard is an excellent choice for anyone whose body chemistry doesn’t mix well with hormones.  Do not be scared by the fact that it is cooper. I will keep you updated as far as my mood adjustments and cramps go.  I will take cramping over Mirena side effects anyday though. I hope this helps.
