Hi bees, I found out I was unexpectedly pregnant with #2 last month. We’d been not preventing since my daughter turned 1 so 13 months later I was pretty surprised when I got 2 pink lines. Anyway, I miscarried at 6.5 weeks. I have bloodwork next week to confirm my HCG is under 5 and I plan to ask my doctor at that time but I wanted to get some input here, too.
I feel ready to TTC – I’ll always grieve the loss of this one, and this was one of the hardest experiences I’ve had to walk through, but I feel like it flipped a switch in my heart (as I’d been on the fence about having more kids), and I know now that I definitely want another child.
For those of you who had a loss – when can you TTC after loss? If you had a loss and went on to have a subsequent pregnancy, how long did it take to get pregnant again? It took 9 months of actively TTC to conceive my daughter, and 13 months of general “it’s my O window yhis week” sex to get pregnant with #2. I’m 37 this fall. I’m just concerned if we wait awhile to try again, my odds are going to keep going down.

Hi bee – I’m so sorry for you loss. I went through the exact same thing – a MC at 6.5 weeks. It was really hard, and 1.5 yrs later after giving birth to a healthy baby four months ago, I still think about it and feel sad sometimes.
As for when you can TTC, I’d ask your doctor, but for a natural miscarriage, I believe most OBs recommend waiting one cycle (so wait til you get your first post-MC period) before trying. We did not follow this advice and just started trying again immediately, but it’s a personal decision obviously.
ETA: Also remember that while its possible your age had something to do with the loss, miscarriages are so common and there’s no reason to think you won’t go on to have a healthy pregnancy next time. 20% of pregnancies end in MC and it can happen at any age. I know people in their early 20s who have been through it.

Sorry about your loss. There’s disagreement about when you can start trying again. A lot of doctors will recommend you wait one cycle, but some will say it’s just fine to try again right away.
Personally, we waited a month and then didn’t get pregnant again naturally on our own. After another year of trying, we pursued IVF and I’m now pregnant again. But, from my experience here and IRL, most people will get pregnant again much faster and will have a happy, healthy pregnancy.

I had a miscarriage at Christmas and got a positive test for this pregnancy 5 weeks later. Currently 10 weeks. I was told as long as the miscarriage is complete and you feel ready there is no reason to wait.

I got pregnant on my first try which ended in a miscarriage, I then waited 2 months to heal emotionally. Got pregnant in the second month trying which also ended in a miscarriage. Got pregnant 2 months after that with my DS.
As long as the doctor clears you then you’re good to go to TTC. My gyn told me there’s no reason to wait.

So sorry for your loss. I had a D&C in Jan and was told to wait at least one cycle. I got my period this month and so we’re trying again this month.
