A little about my wedding: it’s going to be a semi formal, evening wedding. I want my bridesmaids dresses to not match completely because of a few of reasons: they have varying budgets, they live all over the place so going to a bridal shop together isnt an option, and I don’t like the look of completely matching bridesmaids
I read somewhere here that unmatching dresses is good for casual weddings, but not formal weddings.
So I want your opinion on my vision: i want them to have cocktail dresses, knee length, with varying shades of purple and necklines. Maybe the same material. What do you think I should do?

it is going to be difficult to find exaclty the same material for all of them, but if you could at least find something with the same ammount of shine to it they won’t look too out of place. Luckily a purple cocktail dress shouldn’t be too hard to find in a range of budgets. Good Luck!

Though I dont like DB’s customer service down here, I am getting Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses from there because it’s the easiest choice for my BMs who are all over the place. They are all wearing long, satin, truffle brown bridesmaid dresses. Those are the only restrictions. That allows them to choose what fits their body type and at the same time allowing them to stay within their budget. Also, I dont have to stress myself over which 1 Bridesmaid or Best Man dress looks good on all of the girls.

I did David’s Bridal as well. I picked out a dozen some-odd dresses, in the same color and fabric and let the girls pick whatever they want. Although I don’t love love love DB, the dresses were cheap, they came fast, they looked great, and they offered lots ofchoices.

The thing I don’t like about getting the dresses at DB is that everyone does it, so I feel like their dresses won’t be as unique as I’d like them to be. Not that I’m the type of person to steer away from conformity, it’s just that I don’t want my wedding to look like a cookie cutter wedding, you know?
Btw: I’m not saying your weddings will be cookie cutter!! There are a lot of DB dresses I like. I hope nobody takes offense to this :S

The third option of the same shade, same material will probably only happen if you get dresses from the same designer which would mean that they would all be at the same price point. I would go with either option 1 or 2. If you don’t want all the same material then I would tell your bridesmaids what types of material to look for because otherwise they might not end up being all the same formality.
