I have a lovely, although tricky to match with anything, white gold marquise sapphire and diamond engagement ring.
I have found a beautiful white gold and diamond cross over dress ring that I currently have on layby for my wedding ring.
I also wanted a stand-in plain band that I could use when I went swimming/travelling/anywhere I didn’t want to wear my wedding set. So I went on TradeMe (NZ’s Ebay) and found a lovely plain yellow gold band for this.
It arrived today and – it’s gorgeous! I tried it on with my e-ring and it has such a low profile and is a half size smaller than my e-ring so actually slots underneath it quite beautifully. I am now considering cancelling the other ring I have on layby and just using this as my wedding band.
My concerns are as follows:
– They don’t really “match” which bothers me a little, but not as much as I thought it might
– The fitting underneath is not solid and there is some movement, so the two rings may wear against each other over time? I don’t know a lot about this. They are both 9k, but one is yellow and one is white
Another important fact is that the ring I have on layby is about $900NZD (approx $735US) and the one I bought online only cost $80NZD! (approx $65US)
Would love thoughts/experiences/pics of mismatched sets… (please excuse my crappy iPhone photography)

Everyone who has responded ‘neither’ – do you have comments or suggestions??

I’m sorry, but I just dont think either of them are very well suited to your e-ring. The first one is too big and has too much going on, it just distracts from the e-ring. The second one is too thick for my taste, and I’m just not fond of plain gold bands.

I’d get a thinner wedding band than either of the ones you’ve pictured. Could be plain gold, or have some diamonds in the band. But I think the biggest problem with both bands is that they’re too wide and they’re overwhelming the beauty of your engagement ring. A thinner band that was a similar width to your engagement ring would suit it best.

I think the first ring tha @HulaGirl1977 posted would look amazing!

I agree with everyone else. They’re both too wide and the first too much to suit the engagement ring. Unfortunately, I don’t have a different suggestion to make up for my negative comments. :-/

the blue nile ring would look stunning with your e-ring!!

Um i love all 3 rings but not together, sorry!

I agree both rings are too thick looking but if those were the only choices, I would go with the first one. It would be easy to wear it alone when you don’t feel like wearing your e-ring.
My vote is for the 3rd ring hulagirl1977 posted, the swirl

Sadly I have to agree with the PPs that both of those rings seem to not work quite as well as something else might.
Something like this plain-ish domed ring might work:
Or this rolling ring with blue sapphires if you have your heart set on mixing metals:
Or an eternity ring with blue sapphires and diamonds would look divine!
It might be a good idea to go visit a local store and see how some other rings look in person. Take some pics with your phone and then you can post pics for us and a poll if you’d like. Good luck 🙂

I think the first one is way too much for your e-ring (it over-shadows it) and the second one is to thick.
I really like the rings HulaGirl1977 posted. I think that would be a better style to go with your e-ring.

Unfortunately neither work very well – they just look bulky and mismatched. I really love the idea of the saphire eternity band, it would look fabulous

I’d either go with a slimmer (1.5-2mm) plain white gold band, or a diamond/diamond sapphire combo chevron-shaped ring to match.
Since I’m not familiar with which stores you have in NZ, I’ll just post some examples of what I mean:

I think a plain, thin, white gold band would be the best option here. I also like the sapphire and diamond band that someone else suggested, as well.
