- Wedding: October 2009
We’ve been engaged for 18 mos, and the wedding is next Saturday. I’m a little sad that my e-ring will not be joining us. Fiance bought the ring from an etsy vendor, and though he was disappointed that it took longer than he expected (he told me later), we both love the ring. I had pointed out a few but this one was my favorite. I noticed several months ago that the diamond, which is tension set, was slightly crooked and have been asking him ever since to send it back to the guy who made it to have it adjusted.
So, two months ago, he sent it in. He wanted to wait until he had finished making the substitute that he surprised me with, which was very sweet – it is wire and pearl and I love it. Unfortunately it is way too big and slides off all the time, I work with my hands a lot so it often ends up in my pocket. I plan to put it on a chain to wear around my neck after the wedding.
He had contacted the guy who made it before mailing it to him, and the guy told him that it wasn’t a problem for him to mail it and he would be able to fix it. Fiance sent it and… didn’t hear back for a while. About a month ago, after acting really stressed out for a couple days, he confessed to me that he had been searching like crazy to get in touch with the guy, who had stopped responding to his emails. This guy no longer sells on etsy because he had “problems” with the site. He is about 22 years old and obviously totally irresponsible. Fiance had found this guy’s facebook and myspace pages, and even found an address for him and considered driving out there (to Jersey, we’re in NYC) which I was so relieved to hear he didn’t do.
Finally he had contacted the site the guy currently sells through, and that same day he got a response from the guy saying he had the ring and planned to get it done the next day. Yes, this was a month ago. Fiance has tried repeatedly to call and email the guy, now he gets no response whatsoever. He tried again contacting the site the guy sells through, and they responded that they couldn’t reach him either. Fiance was extremely upset about all this, I guess he feels like he failed me and messed this up. And I feel guilty for bugging him for so long to get it fixed – I just didn’t want the diamond to fall out. This is not an expensive ring by any means, just a couple hundred dollars, but of course I wore it for over a year and it is unique and made just for me and I love it. In the most recent email, Fiance threatened legal action and the filing of a police report, but neither of us really knows how to go about taking these actions or whether it is even possible or applicable to our situation.
At this point, it looks like I won’t get the ring back in time for our wedding. We are leaving on Saturday to drive 1500 miles to get to Colorado for the wedding, so unless it arries today or tomorrow, no dice. Both the e-ring and the wedding band are wide so I always planned to just switch the e-ring to my right hand after the wedding anyway, I would never really wear them together. And I’m not a material person. But I am just sad at the possibility that I might never get my ring back and that it won’t be in our wedding pics. Sorry so long, had to vent a little bit. Thanks for listening, hive.
