I’m now 5 days late, however I still tested negative on day 3 (haven’t tested in the past few days). Has anyone else experienced this? Is it possible to not have enough HCG in your system at 3 days late to not test positive? Should I just wait a few more days and test again? At what point should I go to the doctor to request a blood test?
To give some background:
I’ve been off the pill for a year now (was on it for 9 years) and my periods ALWAYS comes on day 30, with spotting starting 2 days before. I have never experienced a different cycle (some cycles it will be longer than others but it always comes on the same day). I haven’t been stressed or been doing anything out of the norm.
I had minimal spotting two days before expected and then again a few days later (I’m talking very minimal, like no point even using a liner). Could this be implantation bleeding? I’ve read that it comes before your expected period but have also read that it can happen around the same time, so I’m not sure which is most accurate – I’m curious to see what others have experienced.
June was our first month of trying, which is why it’s a bit odd that I’m late now when I’ve never been late before. Since this is our first month trying, I’m completely accepting of a negative result, I’m more just concerned on the timing. If there is a chance that I am pregnant I obviously don’t want to be drinking, etc. (I really don’t drink much but my sister’s wedding is next week and I would likely have a few drinks). Has this happened to anyone?
Should I make a doctors appointment in a week or so? Or should I just carry on and enjoy not getting my period? Is it even possible to be pregnant and be getting negative results AFTER you’ve already missed your period?
Any personal stories/ advice would be so so helpful!

I am currently 16 weeks pregnant. I tested positive 1 day before my missed period. However, I had 2 crazy long cycles before we were TTC where I was over 1 week late and not pregnant. I most likely didnt ovulate those 2 cycles, as the rest of my periods came like clockwork. I would give your doctor a call and ask what they think. They didnt want me to come in unless I was 2 weeks late. I had irregular cycles for almost a year coming off BC.

Yes, with my first pregnancy I didn’t get a bfp until 5-6 days late, and even then it was still faint. I think I must’ve ovulated later than expected, because that baby came “late”, too. Maybe try again tomorrow?

Take another test. If you’re 5 days late it should be pretty accurate.

Even with no particular stressors, I think the most likely option is that you ovulated late. I’ve always had regular cycles, but I swear there’s something about starting to TTC that can make them instantly go a little haywire. If you ovulated late then there’s definitely still time for a BFP though! Since your period wouldn’t really be “late” yet (based on this cycle’s actual ovulation not your typical cycle length). Pregnancy tests are most likely to be positive by the time of your missed period (depending on your luteal phase length, so if its shorter you might not till after a missed period). I would wait it out for now. FX for a BFP!
Just saw its been a few days since you’ve tested, I’d definitely test again ASAP!

I’ve been almost two weeks “late” my last two cycles. No reason why – just ovulating later I guess.

TTC can mess with your cycles. I always had clockwork cycles… until I didn’t. Since it sounds like you weren’t tracking ovulation other than based on your usual cycle length, the most likely answer is that you ovulated late/didn’t ovulate and your period will show up soon or you’ll get a BFP. I’d test every 3-4 days if I were you. It’s very common for people with regular cycles to have an occassional fluke or a change in their pattern when they start trying to have a family.

I had this happen very recently – I was 3 days late when I got a very faint positive. It was our first cycle TTC too (for #2), and like you I normally have regular cycles and didn’t think I’d been stressed or had anything going on that would delay ovulation. However it seems it was delayed, as I am pregnant and the gestational sac is dated a week younger than what my LMP would suggest, putting my first faint positive at 10 DPO.
There are question marks over whether this pregnancy is viable as I’ve had a lot of bleeding, but that in itself doesn’t negate the fact that I clearly ovulated late. 🙂

Yes I had this happen last year and also twice before a long time ago and I was not pregnant any of those times. So my period has been late probably 4 times in my life and I was only been pregnant once. Like PP said, it is not all that uncommon and it likely means you are having an annovulatory cycle or you ovulated late.

You likely ovulated late or are having a cycle with no ovulation. Unfortunately it happens, but it sucks when it does. Many of us have had them and it gives a false hope. Test in a few days if AF still isn’t here.
