Do you chart your cycles? If you have normal 28 day cycles you should be able to estimate your ovulation day. See if you had any sex (unprotected or not) during that window. If you’ve missed your period, take a test. It doesn’t matter how many days ago you had sex if your period is late. Seeing as you had sex 10 days before your period was due isn’t a concern to me, your egg was probably no good by then…but you never know. Just to be safe, take a test and I hope for a BFN for you 🙂

Stress can delay your period.  It has happened to me before.  Since you took the pill you forgot, there shouldn’t be any problems on that front.  You shouldn’t have ovulated on the pill unless you miss more than 2 pills in the pack.

@Mewcakes: You should be fine.  I took the BCP for 3 years, and I know that if I stressed about missing a pill, that my period Always came a day late. But if I just carried on my way, it came exactly on the right day.

I also know my body didn’t like the BCP because my body didn’t like to be ‘regulated’ so it tried to rebel. 😛

I missed periods on my birth control pills, when I was taking them, if I got sick or stressed out (now I’m on the shot). It seems like you are under a crap load of stress on top of being sick. Your body is probably too busy trying to make you well to give you back your period : )

Are you on antibiotics or anything?

Maybe wait a little while longer and try a HPT.

Ok, calm down!

Firstly, did you take two pills on the day after you forgot? (that’s what mine says to do) If not, don’t freak just yet. How consistent were you with taking your pills before this? Often having been consistent before missing a pill means that you have less chance of conceiving. It takes your body a little while to get back to normal.

My BC instructions also say that skipping 2 periods is a warming sign of pregnancy whilst on BC. Skipping 1 can happen. Especially if you have been sick. Were you on antibiotics for your illness? Antibiotics can affect how well the pill performs.

You need to give it a day or so for two reasons. 1) It may just not be on time. I takes my period 4-5 days to start when I’m on placebo 2) I don’t think that a test will be able to tell you this quickly.

Try not to stress and think about it, that will only make it worse.

@Mewcakes: I’m pretty sure it’s either 2 or 3 pills, that’s when they say to throw out the pack and start a new one and use backup BC for a week.

I have read before that you can skip a period on the pill.  It’s not the norm and since pills are not 100% effective, I would go get a test.  You could even start with a dollar store test and buy a fancier one if you don’t have a period for a few more days.

Good luck!

edited to add:  If you were on antibiotics, they can make the pill less effective.

@Mewcakes: I did the exact same thing.  I finally decided to abstain until marriage (new bf wanted to anyways) cause I was sick of the stress.  I also decided to go off BCP cause my body just hated it. constant headaches, nausea, bleh.

I was like you…never late. BUT around my wedding I was around 3-4 days late and I know it was due to stress even though I’d never experienced it before.

Test to just be safe, but illness and stress may have thrown your body out of wack.

@firsttimemom: You aren’t supposed to ovulate on birth control pills. That’s how they keep you from getting pregnant. So…charting doesn’t help with that.

To the OP: It sounds like your body went through quite the ordeal leading up to your missed period. You should go ahead and take a pregnancy test just to put you at ease – it has high accuracy once you’re period is late. It will likely be negative, and then you can calm down some and let your body reset itself!
