So earlier this week I dropped my BC pill when I went to go take it. I can’t find it anywhere. I evern looked the next day and searched my room with no luck (hoping one of the puppies didn’t eat it). Can 1 pill affect my chances of getting pregnant?
I am married and we do want to start TTC this fall so it won’t be a huge problem, but I am more worried because I am on a couple medications that could harm my baby. Also I’m on Seasonale so it’s not like I get my period every 28 days.

Did you skip that one or just take the next one in the pack? I think it probably works better if you miss one at the very end rather than in the middle. Usually it’s not a huge deal…you’re BC will be less effective and if you want to make sure you don’t get pregnant use condoms.
Personally I never took mine at a set time and sometimes even took them a day late and never had any problems – however, there are people who get pregnant on the pill so better safe than sorry.

@camrie- I skipped it all together on Monday. I didn’t know if I should have taken the next one because then I would be off for the rest of the pack (doesn’t make sense now when I say it out loud). I told Darling Husband on Tuesday but then we had sex last night, so it’s got me thinking. Part of me doesn’t really care if I get pregnant I am more worried about harming the baby by continuing to take my medication. And also I got the Tdap shot only two weeks ago.

@roxy821: I’d say if you are concerned you can always get the dollar store HPTs just to reassure yourself. Test every couple of weeks if you think there’s a chance you are pregnant (althought I didn’t have any symptoms really). At least then you’d have peace of mind.

Honestly, I would take the morning after pill. I got pregnant taking the pill perfectly, so yes, I think missing a pill would up your chances even more. (but i’m super paranoid like that now!)

I’m not sure how it works on seasonale but I read that for the 28 day cycle ones if you miss 1 pill in days 1-3 you must use back up but if it’s later in the pack, you’re supposed to be okay.

If you really are not ready to TTC yet, go to the drugstore and get the Plan B pill. I got pregnant missing a day of my BC. (I was moving to from Georgia to Texas and drove about 18 hours straight and just forgot to take it and never realized it til the END of my packet when I had an extra pill. I still thought it was no big deal- sure enough, I ended up pregnant.) My mother got pregnant on BC as well at age 40 after being on it for 16 years. I know it’s probably just a weird thing in our family where we’re for some reason more susceptible to being in that 2% that can get pregnant on it, but better to be safe than sorry if you’re really not ready yet!

@camrie- I think I will get one at the store, I just have no clue when to test.
@crayfish & ohheavenlyday- I’m not neccesarily worried about being pregnant or would not want to get pregnant. If I am Darling Husband and I will sure be celbrating and be filled with so much excitement. My biggest worry is continuing to take my medication which I was told needs to be out of my system for two months before I got pregnant.

@roxy821: Depending upon how long you’ve been on BC, it shouldn’t. I’ve missed and doubled up a few times over 8 years. Still not pregnant, still not ovulation whatsoever.

@carrieknitscake- I have been on the pill for 12 yrs so I am hoping that I’m not ovulating.

There’s a chance you could have ovulated in the day that you missed. I would use condoms for the rest of your pill pack, due to still being on the medication. I would call your dr to explain the situation and ask for their advice.
If it were me, I would continue taking the pills for the rest of your pill pack, and test at the end if you don’t get your period. If you were have to have gotten preggo last night, it wouldn’t show up on a test now anyway, so it’s probably not a rush to go out and test right now.
Good luck!! Definitely call your dr and see what they have to say, though.

I’m super paranoid so I would probably go grab a box of condoms and play it safe for the rest of the BC pack.

I’m REALLY surprised so many of you react so strongly to missing 1 day. I was always under the assumption that you didn’t need to initiate a back up plan unless you’ve missed 2. You learn something new every day!
Good thing I use BC and condoms every time anyway, but that’s just because I’m paranoid.

@MrsMcGyro:
LOL, I’m only such a strong reactor because I was one of those who missed one and thought, “No big deal” only to end up pregnant because of it!

Yea, I wouldn’t mess around with missing a pill. People get pregnant taking it all the time. So I would wear condoms for another few weeks to ensure you don’t get pregnant. Then again, I am extremely on the safe side because I would be devestated if I got pregnant now. I would just be devestated. So depending on how welcome you are to being pregnant early, I wouldn’t mess around.
