Thanks for the replies so far. I’m appreciating the different viewpoints on the topic!

I learned sooooo much more from my doula. I’d already made up my mind to give birth without intervention, so the amount of time that the class spent on pain management was totally unnecessary. Learning what to expect during each phase of labor is definitely helpful, but what I learned from my doula, my friends, and reading birth stories was a lot more realistic and thorough than what was explained in the class.

I would go away with DH if the opportunity was there.
We are doing the one weekend, 2 6 hour day, classes. DH wanted to do the 5 week thing, but I didn’t want to be tied down to a class for that long.
If you can’t switch to the one weekend class then ask what the topics will be each week, so you will know what you will be missing if you do go away.

Good call. I did call today and left a message about switching to the single class. The woman who does the scheduling is a friend of a friend and I hear she’s super nice, so hoping she’ll have some good news for me next week. If not, I’ll definitely ask what’s covered each week and see if I can get any reading materials related to what I’d be missing. My mom told me she missed one of her classes when she was pregnant with me, and she did just fine.
