We were very mission minded about the time we got married (DH had been on a long mission trip a couple of years before)… and no, we didn’t, it didn’t cross our minds, and I’m glad we didn’t. Honeymoon is (or should be) when you begin your life together and a time dedicated to just the two of you. A mission trip is spent serving others. And while I believe serving others is a good thing, I think it is important to have a time where you “forsake all others” for a while and build up your marriage.

@paula1248:  100% agree with you!

My Fiance and I are both very service minded and have tons of service activities that we look forward to doing alone and together. Something we have had to keep in mind is to spend our first year together growing and loving each other. We have to always remember that we are each others first priority here in this world and there shouldn’t be any activity that takes us away from this focus- even if its an inherently good activity. We take our inspiration from this passage: Deuteronomy 24:5 “When a man hath lately taken a wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall any public business be enjoined him, but he shall be free at home without fault, that for one year he may rejoice with his wife.”
