I’m having major second thoughts about the colours I’ve chosen for the bridesmaids dresses :S.
My 2 BMs are wearing champagne dresses and my Maid/Matron of Honor is wearing chocolate brown. I thought all was well with the world, but I’m not struggling to decide/match the GMs and FH.
My FH is insisting on wearing a grey suit (light or dark) because he does not want to purchase another black suit (already owns one and wants to wear it if we decide on black, but it does NOT fit him well at all). He’s already asked the GMs to wear black suits.
I’m worried that there are SO many colours in the bridal party that the pictures will look uncoordinated.
My main colours for the wedding are chocolate brown and fuschia. Couple of other points:
-Champagne BMs dresses were chosen not to clash with BMs skin tone and for being a neutral colour.
-Fuschia was going to be the accent colour for accessories in the flowers, boutonnieres, shoes)
For my FH, I love the fuschia and grey together but they’re not our colours. And I feel like there’s too much difference then between him and the GMs and the BMs.
Any advice on how can I pull this party together??

Could you rent chocolate brown tuxes or tan suits? I really like the ones at Jos. A. Bank and they’d look great with your color scheme!

@mellyc: Yikes! The champagne, fuschia, grey and brown…that is a mess!
I suggest getting a light brown suit/tux for your groomsmen…it is very close to grey, especially in photos as you can see:
Pull the fuschia or champagne in with the tie/vest I suggest champagne ties and/or vest, and a fuschia boutinnere (sp?)..
For the girls in champagne, pull in subtle brown tones with the wrapping around their flowers (fuschia flowers?)
Are ALL the girls in champagne?

I think that BellaDee’s suggestion is a good one. Nix the grey/black Groomsmen combo and have them rent a tan or light brown suit. On camera, they do read grey but from your post it sounds like the only objection that Fiance has is that he doesn’t want to BUY another suit in the same color as the one he has. Renting is a viable option (and can be done for pretty cheap)!

Honestly, I don’t think all colors need to match or even play well off each other. I also like it when the bridal party is one set of colors (or in the family) and to guys are in another. That’s how we’re working it and it looks great. I think what yours could be is perfectly fine.

Thanks for the feedback! The picture with the brown suits really do look amazing!
Renting, unfortunately, is not an option for us because we can’t afford it for all the groomsmen. For us, its our wedding and we don’t want them to pay out of pocket.
The wedding is semi-formal, so the GMs/FI will not be wearing vests. The GMs suits will be black. My Maid/Matron of Honor is the only one whose dress (chocolate) is a different colour from the other BMs (champagne). If I chose ivory shirts with champagne/brown ties for the GMs and a solid champagne tie for my Fiance (in a charcoal grey suit), do you think it’ll look weird in pictures?

@mellyc: I personally don’t think that Brown, and grey, and Black go good together and then Champagne on top of that…I’m realllllyyy trying to think of how this would look. Why do the groomsmen need to be in black, or better yet is there any way to talk your fiance into wearing black and then maybe having a champagne tie, and having the guys have brown ties (with black) ?

@mellyc: Just wondering if a tailor could fix your FH black suit to fit?

I’m having a hard time suggesting anything because it seems like your mind is already made up…? Groomsmen have to be in black, but the bridesmaids dresses are already chosen (I assume purchased), and your Fiance will only wear a gray suit?
If your main colors for the wedding are brown and fuschia, I personally wouldn’t pair that with black suits. I also don’t care much for gray and chocolate brown together, so your FI’s gray suit will not coordinate with the bridesmaids dresses.
The only thing I can think of to improve the color situation is to have your fiance buy a new tan suit. That way he will coordinate better with your colors and your bridesmaids, and it will just be the groomsmen who don’t match much. But black suits are classic so I don’t think it will be disastrous or anything.
Lastly, have you discussed the cost of renting suits with your groomsmen? I don’t understand why it’s okay for the bridesmaids to have to purchase dresses if you don’t think it’s fair for the guys to shell out for an outfit. I wouldn’t expect them to buy a brand new $400 suit or anything, but rental fees can be quite reasonable.

it sounds like your mind is pretty made up on the brown, champagne, grey, black, and fuschia. maybe you can tie all the colors together by adding more colors. i think turquoise might look good. grab swatches and see how they all fit together. or maybe just eliminate the brown and find a different color for your moh.
