My Wedding is a looong way off…. but one has to start somewhere especially when trying to mix two different cultures together.
My tastes can best be described as “Goth” but very eclectic (lets not get confused… (and this isn’t made by a choice of abuse/neglect/whatever-cliche when I was younger… I am just different ^.^*) I am neither trendy nor historic). I adore black, I have very conservative values, I like my classical dark music, I adore anime and japanese culture (nothing to do with goth culture… but this is a quick synopses of me), I am arachnologist I study all sorts of latrodectus species (widow family of spiders), and I am a highschool Biology teacher (working on my masters). Oh… I have bleached white hair in a femhawk, and am as pale as a ghost… with freckles….O.O!
My better half is VERY social (infact besides my close family all our wedding guests belongs to him). He is a musician in an industrial-pop band, a computer fanatic, his family is a heavy Mexican catholic family (but they are very very very understanding of other cultures/religions/lifestyles). He is a big guy… (330lb big..)
Ok. Here is the dilema…
How do I incorperate US into the wedding? Should I even bother trying to add my style when I only have 12 guests and he has 72 O.o!!
Oh… here is the other kicker…. This will be my second wedding (I got married at 18, it didn’t go very well) … and his first… O.o! Does that make a difference?
The wedding is not for another year and half, but if I learned anything from my first wedding…. its that you don’t wanna wait till the last minute…

First of all, don’t worry about it being your second wedding – that doesn’t matter at all! A lot of us are encore brides.
I think you both sound really interesting and your wedding would be really kick ass! It’s probably not as hard as you think to incorporate you two into it… start with a venue… ours reflected us – it was a 1920’s theater… the rest just fell into place. Start with the venue!

Have you checked out RockNRoll Bride and Offbeat Bride? I’m pretty eclectic in my tastes, and when I get engaged, I definitely want to have our wedding super personal, so I look to these sites as good personalization inspiration. Hope it helps! And welcome!

I was going to suggest OffBeatBride too 🙂 After WeddingBee, it’s my most favorite-est wedding website 🙂
As you start to plan, sit down with your Fiance and talk about what’s important to both of you in the wedding, and dont be afraid to abandon ‘traditional’ in favor of ‘meaningful’ if it’s more YOU 🙂
It really helped us to talk about the mood we wanted to set. We realized that we wanted something fun and a little unexpected as opposed to really polished or formal.

I also thought of Offbeat Bride while reading your post. I think no matter how many of the guests are “yours”, you should find ways to put each of you into your wedding.
I’m an encore, Fiance is a newbie, and he’s also Mexican. We are just using little details to represent “us” wherever we can. Our venue has a very old world Mexico feel and our ceremony music will reflect that with a Spanish guitar. Fiance is a musician, so the music is important to him and I’m letting him run with that. We plan to use little mini empanadas as favors. Since I’m DIYing lots lots lots, the invites and flowers will be very “me”.
Bottom line – add the elements you love and go from there – sounds totally awesome to me!

I totally agree with the others – RocknRoll Bride and Offbeat Bride would probably give you a ton of great inspiration. I think it is so cool that weddings nowadays don’t always have to scream “traditional,” and that brides are taking liberties to personalize their day. I think you should definitely be able to inject what is “you” into the wedding for sure! Have fun with it!

Thanks for all the input. Me and my intended, sat down and went through EVERY page in Offbeat brides… (its great how involved and exited he is). We found alot of little stuff we liked, but we are rethinking everything. Most of all, we are trying to make this about us, not necessarily about everyone else (both of our families are large, so a wedding is a common thing lol). This is our special day, so we are centering it around what will make us the happiest… I will post more as we discuss more. <3
Thanks a bunch,
