I’m having a dilemma with selecting my Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses. I was planning to chose the designer, color, fabric and have my 5 BMs choose their own style of dress. Since none of the stores nearby could show me sample dresses in the right color or fabric, I ordered chiffon and charmeuse fabric swatches from Dessy thinking I could mix the two. (I want a berry/merlot color.) I decided that I could not mix the 2 and liked charmeuse more, but there are not a lot of tea-length, non-strapless styles to choose from on the Dessy website. When I had gone shopping with my BMs, most of them said they would feel more comfortale wearing a non-strapless dress.
Now, I’m thinking of mixing charmeuse with a matte satin to add in more styles, but does anyone know if those fabrics will look ok together? Does anyone have any sample pictures or advice on what to do? I’m also thinking of switching to Jim Helm which has lots of pretty tea length dresses in chiffon, but none in charmeuse. It’s really important to me to have them feel comfortable in the dress, and hopefully they can rewear it later.

I think mixing fabrics looks fine as long as the formality of style/fabric between the dresses are similar. I’d never mix cotton with chiffon, but taffeta/chiffon/silk seems like they will all go well.
Mrs Hydrangea’s bridesmaids all chose their own dresses… while they were black, they were all completely different and looked totally fabulous. They reminded me of the Sex and the City movie!

As longas you are ok with the non-identical look (which it seems like you are with letting the girls pick their own style) They will be fine!
I agree with Mrs. Penguin–as long as the formality of the dresses are similar, materials aren’t as important.

Almost all the dresses come with spaghetti straps you can add – you might want to check if the strapless dresses at Dessy have that as an option!!

I think it would be fine to mix fabrics as long as you go with all formal-ish fabrics (no cotton, etc.). I think its wonderful that you care so much about your bridesmaids being comfy and getting to reuse the dress. 🙂 Good luck!
