I think mixing fabrics looks fine as long as the formality of style/fabric between the dresses are similar.  I’d never mix cotton with chiffon, but taffeta/chiffon/silk seems like they will all go well.

Mrs Hydrangea’s bridesmaids all chose their own dresses… while they were black, they were all completely different and looked totally fabulous. They reminded me of the Sex and the City movie!

As longas you are ok with the non-identical look (which it seems like you are with letting the girls pick their own style) They will be fine!

I agree with Mrs. Penguin–as long as the formality of the dresses are similar, materials aren’t as important.

Almost all the dresses come with spaghetti straps you can add  – you might want to check if the strapless dresses at Dessy have that as an option!!

I think it would be fine to mix fabrics as long as you go with all formal-ish fabrics (no cotton, etc.). I think its wonderful that you care so much about your bridesmaids being comfy and getting to reuse the dress. 🙂 Good luck!
