I would go with taffata, I don’t think taffata and satin will look bad at all together! And if you get the crinkled, it’ll add a nice texture, too!

That being said, I don’t think the nakpins are even an issue. I have satin sashes, & tablecloths, and we will most likely be doing sheer organza runners, and polyester napkins.

I agree, satin napkins would be weird.

Personally I like the idea of mixing textures and fabric – then it’s not like you are drowining in a sea of satin…

@Dolcebabe:  With these colors and the style you’re looking to achieve, I would keep it to no more than two contrasting fabrics. The polyester (tablecloths and napkins) will be accented nicely by the satin. However, throwing taffeta into the mix is a bit much; the combination of poly, satin, and taffeta will start to look a bit sloppy, especially because the same color in different fabrics begins to look mismatched. (Not to mention you’re considering eggplant, white, and ivory in various materials; that could end up looking more like four or five different colors than three.)

If I were you, I’d stick with the current poly tablecloths, napkins, and satin chair covers. If you add any more accents – ie table runner or chair sash – make sure they’re either satin or poly, but not a third kind of material. It will look more polished and cohesive this way. =]
