I have a guest who was depending on her MN renter’s refund (I had never heard of this, my state does not do them) to afford the trip to Georgia for my wedding. She said normally it’s deposited into her account the first or second week of August (my wedding is the 20th) but something tells me it’s going to be waaaaay later this year since the government’s been shut down for 2 weeks and doesn’t seem to be showing signs of starting back up again anytime soon.

@ohheavenlyday: Good news for your friend, we just got word this morning that an agreement has been reached and that we should see the shut-down coming to an end sometime very soon!

Well there is works of reopening the Gov sometime next week. Besides all you need to do is cross the border to WI and go to Prescott or Hudson to buy your tickets if you are in real lotterry fix!

@ohheavenlyday: I wouldn’t get my hopes up. This 2 week shut down is going to back the systems up for possibly months and since we lost a few million while they shut the state down they could hold it like they do the state refunds sometimes when they can’t afford it. 🙁 That sucks for her and all of is in this state.

@MsBrooklynA:

TBH it will be kind of a relief for me if she doesn’t get her refund in time and can’t come, only because she’s very open about her money issues and I know she REALLY can’t afford to come to the wedding. She recently had her dad loan her the money to buy a car and she already has had to ask for her first car payment back from him so she could buy groceries. Like, I KNOW she can’t afford to come, but she’s going to try anyway, and it just makes me feel guilty and stressed like I’m putting her in a bind and she’s going to be in really bad shape once she gets back home because she spent money she didn’t have to come to Georgia just for my wedding. It’s not that I don’t want her there, but I KNOW she can’t afford it and ahhhh it just makes me feel bad! I don’t want anyone to feel like they have to put themselves in such a bad position just to come to my wedding.

@ohheavenlyday: That sounds so aweful. I know how hard it is to constantly just be trying to make it and all you want is to do something fun for once. I hope it works out for her. This state is going to be an absolute mess My was put back onto unemployment from the shut down when he had just come off of it at the end of May. It’s effecting everyone and never in a good way.

@MsBrooklynA:

I can’t even imagine being one of the parents who depends on child care aid from the state right now… what did they DO!?

@ohheavenlyday: I don’t know. I cannot understand how a judge deemed that not necessary.

Apparently Governor Dayton agreed to a budget that was initially proposed on June 30th. Kind of irritating to know that we could have avoided the bulk to this whole bitch-fest. I feel bad for a lot of the people that I work with because their licensing all gets funnelled through the state government and no one can do business because the state doesn’t have people processing the paperwork. We also have several people lined up for jobs that we haven’t been able to fully hire because we need info from the state for their background check.

@MsBrooklynA: Can I ask what part of MN you’re from? You can PM me if that would make you more comfortable. There aren’t tons of us MN gals on the boards, so it’s always nice to see another one:)

I feel ya! I need to renew my tabs ASAP since they expire this month… and all I can think is that it took them this long to play cat and mouse while wasting millions to ‘save money on a budget’.

Sigh.

There are a few things wrong with your original post:

1. They are still Paying the DNR guys to enforce fishing regs

2. The Govenor was going to loose his chef, so rather than letting her be laid off, he is paying her out of his own personal money.

Yes Dayton has agreed to sign the proposal, however he also hasn’t called the special session into affect and until he does that no amount of promises can change things.

this whole thing is ridiculous. I drove all over the State this weekend wedding planning and no one is cleaning up the highways! there are like tire treds everywhere I even saw a trashcan just laying on the side of the road… the sooner this is over the better…

Sad to say the part I miss the most is Blue Moon (with the orange slice of course). They aren’t allowed to sell it since miller coors doesn’t have a lisence to sell in MN anymore..
