Really, I don’t think there’s anything you can/should do. If you, somehow, convince her to wear something different on her wedding day: 1) it won’t look like her and 2) she’ll probably be self-conscious and nervous. My vote? She is who she is and let her be.

@MsBlackberry:  Let her wear something comfortable. My Mum dressed up as mother-of-the-groom in a fairly floaty  outfit for my eldest brothers wedding, doing what other people expected of her. For mine she has bought a cheap dress that swirls out when she dances and is comfortable and we’re spending more on hat/handbag/shoes. I know she’ll be happier as she’ll be more relaxed and she know Ill be happier when she’s not uncomfortable.

Why not look into Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses?

This is my mom 🙂 She’s not a size 2 and has some curves, but she’s petite and a lot of the traditional dresses made her look frumpy too… and she’s also extremely frugal and refused to spend a lot of money. She found this on clearance at Macy’s for $40! I was like “wow, good job mom!” It looks like a bridesmaids dress, but it actually gives her a shape! Now on to shoes… that should be a fun battle. 😛

Definitely look into bridesmaids dresses and try to be patient with her. Maybe once she tries on multiple dresses, she’ll find one that just “clicks” with her. And she’s never too old to wear a padded bra for some extra omph 😉
