Hi Bees I need your help please. My daughter is getting married October 2010 and does not want a big formal hall shower. She has told me that she would rather just have a casual shower at our family home. The guest list for the shower would be around 40.
Ok so here is where I need your help. We have an average size home with a backyard swimming pool so we will likely have ladies outside and inside the house. We don’t really have space inside or outside for everyone to be alll at the same time. Although we do have a pretty large deck the pool takes up most the the backyard space. This makes it difficult to set up tables for everyone to sit, open gifts or play games all together. It would have to be a buffet with everyone all over the place. How can I make this special? I don’t want it to just seem like a summer pool party….I want it to feel like a shower. She isn’t really the tea party type.
Bees how can I make this shower really special for her? I want her to have a wonderful time with her female family and girlfriends.

Welcome to WB!! Since it will be buffet style, why don’t you have a mix of summer foods. But gourmet style. Like mini burgers, sandwiches, salads etc. You can have appetizers as well. Mostly unique finger foods.
You can have a few different drinks, such as fresh squeezed lemonade and Iced Tea. For dessert cupcakes vs a big cake.
Can you set up some of the buffet inside and outside?

I used to be horrified by the thought of doing a ‘theme’, but honestly, its really the easiest way to put a shower together. Look around the internet for ‘shower themes/ideas’ and there’s a ton of ideas you can copy or modify.
My daughter’s shower last year was an ‘Around the Clock’ shower which I had never heard of before doing a search. I had the invitations made and randomly assigned times of the day to each guest. Registry information was included as a guide, and I was really impressed at how creative the guests were. We also had a ‘no wrapping’ gifts, but people used other things to hide their gifts and there was still plenty of bows. You can use any color for the invitations, cake, and decorations, but we used her wedding colors which were black, white & fuschia. Some of the times were Breakfast Time,Have Your Parents to Dinner Time,Stock the Bar Time, Party Time, etc She received a wide variety of gifts and it was really fun.
For this daughter’s shower, which is this Sunday,we’re doing a Blue Bling shower. Guests were asked to wrap their gifts in blue paper/bags, and we’re again using her wedding colors which are turquoise, ivory & silver. Centerpieces, candles, cake are all in those colors, and we’re serving Blue Hawaian drinks!
Look around,or walk around a party store for some inspiration. Good luck!
