I’ve been following along, and I’m really happy that these nagging questions will be answered. A lot of them are things I’ve been wondering since joining the bee. Thanks, @Gemstone

@miss sparkly cat

In that case, I’d like to add to the editing questions:

  • Are mods notified when a post is edited and do they have the ability to see the original post even after it was changed?

Another question

  • If I am banned (I’m not planning on it, just curious) do you ban my username and that’s it?  Am I even able to re-join as a different username?  Like, if there is a troll, what is stopping him/her to just start trolling under a different username?
  • Once and for all – is joinin the Circle of Snark a bannable offense?
  • Someone asked about the knot, because sometimes they make fun of the bee.  Is belonging to the knot a bannable offense?

I’m trying to organize it in sections to make it work, hopefully this will help imalittlebirdie.

@Gemstone:  However, in situations like this one, the “rule” being violated isn’t a rule about editing posts and is more about what was there before the post got edited. Does that make sense?….Have you even seen someone “quote” someone’s post in a reply before the OP edits it out? That happens sometimes.

Are people getting warnings based on quoted language?  I hate to say this because I realize we don’t have legal rights participating on the boards, but this really concerns me.  Someone with a private vendetta or just wanting to stir up trouble could “quote” language that was never there in the first place.  Obviously a long pattern of doing so will eventually reveal itself, but even a one off could be problematic for the one person it happened to.  It’s not really good evidence.

@kay01:  Sorry, I didn’t mean to be confusing! I just meant that users — moderators and hostesses included — sometimes see content before it gets edited out. I promise no one is getting warned for users quoting them, and I’m sorry I gave a bad example.

We’ve seen where a poster will edit their OP and get mad that someone else quoted what they’ve said before they changed it. Again, I’m sorry it was a bad example; I really just meant that just because things get edited doesn’t mean that no one saw them.

@kay01:  I’m assuming there is a way for the mods to see posts before they were editted (some type of time capture).  I doubt anyone would be giving a warning based on what someone quoted them as saying.

THis could be another question, but to be honest I don’t want to come up with the wording for this one, so if someone wants to include it go ahead and PM imalittlebirdie (sorry if I’m misspelling your name!).

@imalittlebirdie:  Haha! I promise not to shoot the messenger. 🙂 I think there will probably be a lot of questions that relate to one another, so hopefully it won’t be as intimidating as it sounds!

From past mod comments I’ve seen, I’m pretty sure the answer is “no” to both of those questions.
