Bonny makes a whole line of modest wedding dresses..
Bonny makes a whole line of modest wedding dresses..
we are in a similar situation, my daughter wants a fashionable dress, but because of our faith tradition would not be comfortable showing cleavage (and she is street size 6/8, fairly well endowed). She chose a beautiful modified trumpet gown that has a “straight neckline” and we are adding a matching cap sleeve or possible a lace bolero if we can find the right cut that doesn’t look too frumpy.
I found a gown I LOVED and just added sleeves and material to my bust line! 😉
I know this thread is old, but I’m sure others will find it useful.
Allure actually makes a modest line. I loooove Allure dresses, and her modest gowns are no exception (even though I’m not “modest” myself)
I agree that this thread should be maintained since it’s a common request even for those of us that aren’t choosing something for religious reasons. I just don’t like strapless and feel better in something with a bit more coverage. I discovered these lace jackets and pullover top things that are gorgeous and I am thinking of something like this if I choose a strapless dress. I actually prefer them over boleros. Of course I can’t remember I saw them; I didn’t save the designer info because it was something I figured I’d find cheaper elsewhere down the road! I have found a dress I adore (strapless) and hope to do something similar to turn it into my PERFECT dress!
I love the lace pullover thing! What’s it called? I tried searching for it and can’t seem to find them. :/
@Miss Seaman: Let me look in my browser history and see if I can find where I found them in the first place. They were mentioned on someone’s wedding related blog and it had Aires in the name (the designer name). I was trying to find them as well but hopefully cheaper and I can’t figure out what to call them in a search! I just keep finding boleros and stripper gear!
@zippylef: Yeah I’m a dork (and lacking sleep). All I could think of is “Buenos Aires”!!
D’oh! I had to dig through my browser history (which these days is knee deep and all with the same keywords of “lace” and “bridal” and “with sleeves”!!)
Anyway here is a link to their site:
My problem is still in trying to find these similar items but from other designers or manufacturers. The thing is they call them “jackets” but quite a few of them look like pullovers and I can’t find anything like that in my searching. If someone else does, please let me know! I like the fact that they cover the chest somewhat and many are off the shoulder!
The lace bodices appear to be attached to the dress and not removeable without destroying the rest of the dress.
I love them too! If I find them I’ll let you know!
@Selene221 – If you look at the designers site, they’re all under “jackets” and you can tell that they just pull on and off over the dress! So nifty!
A lot of vintage dresses have a lot more coverage as well; have you looked at vintage? Or are you set on having a designer dress?
Finding non-strapless dresses isn’t an easy task. Good luck!
Have you found a gown yet? Try:
They’re based in Sandy, Utah (about 25 min from SLC airport) and have trendier dresses that don’t look like a cookie-cutter style dress that you see on several LDS brides, being LDS myself I thought several temple-ready gowns lacked style but this Bridal Expressions is great. I also hated the idea of wearing a bolero with a strapless, I think some boleros kill the look of strapless, since there are so many beautiful strapless styles. I also did not want to pay an extra $250+ on altering a strapless gown to make it temple appropriate and risk having the gown look like patchwork!
I wanted to look stylish but also dress in a manner that He respectfully deserves in a house of worship. BX has two locations in Sandy, one having all their latest and greatest merchandise (starting at about $700 and up to $2000) and their other store is their discounted stock from last season ($99-$450) but very beautiful and not dirty or ripped like other on sale gowns. I bought mine at their outlet and I couldn’t be happier! I will need to post a picture of my dress at some point. They do carry some strapless styles
http://www.modestcouturebyelizabeth.com/ If you like vintage ’50s dress you can check them out. They also do custom jobs.
If you want custom made dress and have a huge budget for it check out Jessica May. She’s based in UT so you will need to budget for travel as she will only do fittings in person.
Alta Moda is a bridal shop in Salt Lake carrying brands like Vera and Monique. They cater to alot of brides that request sleeves and the designers work very well for these type of requests from their customers. Also check A Bride Beautiful and Avenia Bridal.
Maybe make a trip to Utah instead of New York to purchase a gown?
This is to anyone looking for a Bonny Bridal BLISS gown. I have my choice of any Bliss gown currently in stock, but I am having a beach wedding and would rather not wear a modest gown. I am hoping to use whatever $ from the BLISS gown to compensate for what I am spending on my beach appropriate gown. Please contact me at (jasonandamywedding at gmail com) if you have found one you like and I can help you lower your costs as well!
