- Wedding: September 2016 - Autumn Ridge Golf Club
I’m in such a dilemma right now. My Maid/Matron of Honor is a little heavier and is bigger chested, and the dresses we chose don’t have much support. We’ve been trying to figure out a solution for a whlie now, but we are starting to get SO close to the wedding and we still don’t have a dress for her. We’ve both been looking online, and she doesn’t live in the same state as me so we can’t go shopping together to find one. I’ve kind of decided to at least have her wear a different color or length (She would wear long, the other Bridesmaid or Best Man are wearing short), but the skirt of the original dress is tulle.
Does it look weird if the dresses aren’t the same material? I’m kind of lost as what to do, so any advice on this whole situation would be great!
PS: She isn’t being a diva about anything, she feels terrible that she’s asking me to do this. So the last thing I want to do is force her to wear the dress.

I don’t think it’ll look weird at all. I think it’ll look like you’re a good friend who puts the comfort of the people she loves ahead of aesthetics. Good on you 🙂

I’m glad you are not trying to force her to wear a dress that does not provide support for her figure. Was she not involved in the decision making before you chose the dress?
It is perfectly fine for the Maid/Matron of Honor to wear a completely different dress-color, fabric, style, length, everything.
If you want some help finding her a dress, tell us what you would like, budget, color, style, and perhaps a pic of the Bridesmaid or Best Man dress if you have one.

I think it would be super nice of you to let her pick a different dress. Not everyones body looks good in the same thing, and that’s ok!

I always thought that the Maid/Matron of Honor should have a different dress, anyway. Same color, different style. It stands out more. I wouldn’t go long if the others are short, but definitely okay for the style change

Bridesmaids look the best in photos when they are happy. I would just let her get any flattering dress in your color scheme. It will look fine as long as the material is appropriate for the season. You may be also able to tie everything together even more by using your flowers or accessories strategically.

I think it’s cute to have the Maid/Matron of Honor in something different than the other BMs! As long as the overall feel and color pallet is the same

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for being so understanding about your MOH! This post is soooo relieving after reading so many bridezilla posts lol and being a bigger girl myself, I can completely identify with your bridesmaid. I don’t think it will look weird at all! Just have her search for a comfortable dress that compliments the tulle in your other bridesmaids dresses. She could wear lace or chiffon and it would look just fine. I would have her avoid taffeta or satin though unless the other dresses have those fabrics on them as well. Have you looked on etsy? She may be able to order a dress that is custom made for her larger chest and most etsy shop owners will have the option to “rush” production to meet your deadline.
