My original Maid/Matron of Honor is in the military and received her deployment details only a few months before she left. She wasn’t able to get leave for (either) of the wedding/receptions and there is no way she will be able to come.
Last night, as I spent 2 hours hunched over the paper cutter after work, I thought to myself, “You know what self, you definitely do not have enough things to stress out about or finish right now, you should start thinking of what to send MOH!”
So, um, yah. Now I’m trying to think of a few things that are not terribly expensive to buy or to mail and not ridiculous for her to have in Afghanistan. Thus far, all I can think of is program and photo of us.
She knew her dates before we put an order in for dresses, so she doesn’t have any of the “things” and is very much not a girly girl, so buying her jewelry or shoes just for grins isn’t an option.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Can you put together a “Mock day”?
Include the things that she would be doing, eating etc if she were able to be with you.
I know you won’t be able to include most of the fresh foods that you will have, but you could have fun finding a close substitute.

I second that kind of thing. Give each item an “open me” date so she has something to look forward too spread out over a longer period of time.

Ohh! The mock-day idea is great! I will see what I can put together!
Salmon definitely comes in cans, hahaha.
A nail polish (totally useless to her, but funny), some bobby pins, crackers, salmon can, maybe some sort of gross preserved cheese product. I wonder if I can find a mini bottle of sparkling apple juice or something too.
Gantt-chart day-of schedule, hahaha.

lots and lots of pictures! My fiance is in Afghanistan now and all he wants is pictures. You could send her pictures of all your ideas/plans for the wedding and pictures of things you’re doing. Include little notes or draw little stick figure versions of her on them so she’s “part of the action”.
