My sister is my Maid/Matron of Honor and I have assured her she does NOT have to wear a dress to my wedding. I want her to be comfortable, and I am happy to have her be herself in a nice-looking suit. She and I went to Men’s Wearhouse to try a suit jacket on, and to get her measurements (though we’re looking at JCP, Kohls, or Macys for the purchase). She’s a bigger girl, and there’s no doubt that her suit will have to be altered to fit her correctly. She’s going to look adorable.
The rest of my bridesmaids will be wearing short dresses in the David’s Bridal color sangria. The groomsmen will most likely be wearing suits in light charcoal, with sangria ties to match the bridesmaids. While my sister will be wearing a light charcoal suit, I’d also like her to stand out a bit from the men. Our question is—how? And as a secondary question, would it be weird to have her carry a bouquet of flowers? Or would the flowers make her stand out enough without having to have her attire be different from the groomsmen?
Thanks for any advice you can give us. I want her to look and feel fabulous on my special day.

@MaineBride30: Is there any way that you can have a buttonniere made for her with more flowers or different flowers than the guys in the wedding party? Maybe add a different accent to her buttonniere like a little bow or charm?

She should wear a leis that matches the flowers of your bouquet or a headpiece. See attached photo I shot with friends in Hawaii. The really didn’t want bouquets, so they exchanged leis and one wore a crown.
It was absolutely lovely. And with this, I’d skip the buttonniere. They can be any color and done more simply so that it does not look so Hawaiian-ish. Good luck!!!

@ArtDecoLisa: I really love this idea! I think having her wear a boutonniere that’s just a little bit more ornate or with different flowers from the men will be perfect. Thank you!

@LiseRamosMorales: This is another really great idea. I’m thinking of using sangria-colored orchids for my flowers, so a lei would make a lot of sense. Thanks!!
