Ladies with Moissy rings, curious to know your thoughts on them. Do they look the same as Diamonds. do they last long? ( like at least a few years) or do they start yellowing/tarnishing?
Woundering if I should ask my SO to use one of those as my starter ring? We both already talked about how since our funds are tight he only afford to spend so much money, but once our finances settle, he wants to get my dream ring.
So not my ideal situation, but I understand I have to be realistic. It just sucks if he gets me a small diamond howe everyone will want to see “the ring” , and I won’t have anything too nice to show off, and then once I get my dream ring, no one will care anymore lol.
so curious if I should ask him to get a moisy in my dream ring style, and once money is not an issue, he switches it to diamonds

Moissanite is a forever stone, unlike a CZ which needs to be replaced every few years. It’s nearly as hard as a diamond.

Use the search feature to look at previous threads, lots on diamonds, Moissy, CZ…

@ms_fifi: If you have a dream setting that would hold a larger stone I would go for it and just get a moissy for now…or even a CZ. With the intention that you’d switch out the center stone later on. Moissy is technically a “forever” stone, unlike CZ, although it’s still pretty inexpensive compared to diamond.
FWIW A lot of Bees with moissy’s say they don’t perform exactly like a diamond, so if you’re wanting to pass it off as one, you might be able to – if people give your ring a passing glance but not so much if they’re closely examining it. I don’t personally own a moissy so I can’t say for certain.
There are loads of threads on this sort of topic, so give it a search – that should help you 🙂

They do not look the same as diamonds, but similar – some people can tell the difference, most won’t. They are permanent, durable stones.

@ms_fifi: I saw my first moissanite recently, and I was SERIOUSLY impressed! I’m a diamond person, but I thought it was SO gorgeous! And definitely more sparkly than my super expensive diamond.
I think part of how diamond-like it looked was because it was only 1ct. I think the bigger ones can be more non-diamond looking, but hers was amazing!

@ms_fifi: I think it’s a great idea! Moissanite is much harder than CZ. CZ will get cloudy and worn appearing around the edges over time, but a moissanite will not. So although you’ll pay more for a moissanite it will last while you save enough to change it out for your dream diamond.. (& you’ll still have the moissy to use in something else!)
Most people will assume a clear sparkly stone on your left hand is a diamond. Of course the larger the simulant, the more obvious it is.

@musician32992: Moissanite is much harder than CZ, but a diamond is approximately 3 times harder than moissanite. MikeC of Moissaniteco mentioned this a while back. Moh’s is not linear thus it is not to scale. CZ is 1400, Moissanite (silicon carbide) is approx 2200 on the Knoops scale while diamond is 7000+

@gemgirl6: She asked if it would yellow or tarnish and need to be replaced. I answered the question, but thank you, as always, for teaching me how little I know about moissanite. You saved the day!

I would definitely go with it! You might fall in love with moissanite and not want to exchange it later on. Mine is even shinier and whiter than a diamond. I think I majorly lucked out with mine though.

I have a 1.3ct I color natural diamond I have loved for years. Then , I recently bought a 2.2 ct OEC moissy and I will say, it is more beautiful than my diamond. Perhaps my diamond isn’t the best cut quality but I always got compliments.
But as for the moissy, It looks absolutely real. I am picky too. I think the cut you chose, if you go with Moissy, will really matter as well as where you buy it from. Search this forum and thefacetlounge.com for pictures of moissys. You may be pleasantly surprised. Good luck.
I could post post a comparison shot of my diamond and moissy side by side for you if you’d like.

@ms_fifi: I think that is a great option! Honestly, once you go moissy I don’t know if you’ll go back to diamond. Our original thought was to get a moissy ring and later replace the center stone with a diamond, but after seeing moissy in person and falling in love with it, I decided why spend the extra thousands of dollars replacing the center stone that I already love? Yes, they do behave quite differently, but moissy is a forever stone. It’s so shiny and beautiful I can’t imagine why I would “throw money” into a new stone. The only plus I saw to “upgrading” to a diamond is that when people ask about my ring I don’t have to launch into a 5 minute explanation of what moissanite is and why we chose it over diamond…and will keep it over diamond.
Other people have not been as impressed with moissy and say that it can look green… I never had the green problem (although I’ve seen my coworkers unenhanced throw green before), but mine could get warm. They are chameleons and reflect a great deal of color from the environment, but as a lover of moonstones/labrodites/mystic topazes/alexandrites/all things color change, this totally floored me and made me fall in love even more!
