DrAtkins : Wow I didnt realize you could get a moissanite stone so cheap! That would definitly lower the cost significantly. Yes we have talked about eventually possibly changing out the center stone for a diamond which is why I want the side stones to be diamonds and my band will be diamonds.

Lisa0526 : Lab diamonds are real diamonds. But if you want a big center stone, its gonna cost you, so moissanite is probably a better choice. Shop around though, because I agree with the others, a 1.5 carat moissanite shouldn’t be that expensive.

Lisa0526 : “a quick search of ebay….” Also, I would make sure you are ok with the moodiness of moissanite and the stain mentioned earlier. If you have time and are willing to search, I would also suggest you look at preowned diamonds, which can be reset. For example, my right hand 2ctw ring with a 1ct center was around 1000 at an estate sale. Another option is lab created diamonds which are becoming cheaper. Lightbox used to have 1ct diamonds available for around 1000.

i think 3k for a mossy is WAY over priced to be honest. Mine was a little under a grand, we did get it insured though.

3k for that stone and setting is insane markup. Insane markup is the way many brick and mortar jewelry stores play. And believe me, I know jewelry very, very well. Is 3k your budget? Have you been to pawn stores, secondhand sites (diamondbistro, loupetroop, idonowidont)? What about lab diamonds?
ETA I just looked and found a number of 1 carat diamonds in your price range. You can always get the setting you like as an anniversary gift.
