@Optistudent:  The terminology, unfortunately, is pretty confusing.  First, there is Amora-enhanced moissanite, which is moissanite that is pre-screened for whiteness and then treated to ensure minimal colour.  At the moment, there is a backlog for Amora moissanite and it’s not available yet but will be soon.

Amora Gem is a different thing altogether, although very similar to moissanite….think of it as moissanite improved or the baby of diamond and moissanite.  It’s not available in most countries until 2015 due to a patent held by C&C but may be available in other countries sooner.  You can find out more information at the Betterthandiamonds website.

@Optistudent:  Amora moissanite and the Amora Gem are two completely different stones, they have different molecular compositions.

The Amora Gem isn’t available for sale anywhere right now. They’re still figuring out how to make these gems. If the manufacturing problems are resolved tomorrow, you still won’t be able to buy in the US until 2015.

Amora moissanite, on the other hand, will soon be available again. It’s simply C&C moissanite which has been pre-screened for optimal colour and cut, and then treated with a permanent process that improves the molecular bonds within the stones. It also makes the gems harder.

If you want Amora moissanite, sign up for the waiting list on BetterThanDiamond.com. If you want to wait for the Amora Gem, you might consider an Asha, regular CZ, or a white sapphire for now. Then you can upgrade to the Gem when it’s available.

Sorry to hear about your theft. Were your rings insured?

I am so sorry to hear about your loss, people can be so horrible!

As far as your question is concerned, as others have stated above there are two different stones, the Amora Moissanite which is moissanite from C&C that is screened and then whitened by Better Than Diamond, who sells the “Amora Moissanite”. They will be back in stock at betterthandiamond.com and moissaniteco.com after those on the waitings lists have been taken care of.

So far no one other than Miss America 2010 has an Amora Gem (hers is on loan, she cannot own one until 2015 when the patent expires in 2015). The Amora gem is related to moissanite in that they are both composed of silicon carbide (SiC), but the Amora Gem is colorless and will come in ideal cuts, such as Hearts and Arrows round, H&A Cushion, Princess, Emerald/Krupps, Asscher, and later on the Old European Cut. Those will be available for purchase for those on the BTD waiting list who are  having the stones shipped to non-patent protected countries early next year.

If you would like to replace your rings with the Amora Gem, I would recommend using a temporary stone in the meantime such as an Asha or a Wink CZ that will last you a few years until you can upgrade to the Amora Gem.

@Optistudent:  Hearts and Arrows is considered one of the “ultimate” cuts for round brilliant stones, as it does a phenominal job of maximizing a stones light play, and was originally created to maximize the brilliance of diamond. However, it has now been expanded and BTD has taken the time to do the research to figure out how to do a H&A cut on their Amora Gem (it had to be tweaked to accomodate SiC’s refractive index), and they also tweaked it for their lab grown sapphires as well!

Some people are not fond of the H&A cut, and that is all personal preference, and because of that no single cut can claim to be “the best”, but if you are looking for maximum light play, I think you will be very, very pleased with the H&A for the Amora Gem.

I just got my Amora moissanite on christmas !! It was purchased from moissaniteco.com so I know they carry them. They were out of them a while back but I’m sure they’re available since mine was just made a week ago! Check their site. They are amazing anyway!!!you won’t be disappointed in the stone.
