I’ve never seen moissy in a store, some stores get quite offended if you even ask. You may have that happen as well.

My Fiance bought mine from moissaniteco.com and I LOVE IT!! It is a FB 1ct white gold, so not exactly what you are looking for… but I do love my ring! =) Since mine is enhanced, I can not comment on the lighting question for unenhanced.

Fiance said his buying experience was great, no issues. I haven’t had any issues with my ring needing returns/fix.

You will LOVE the sparkle!!

For the ladies who have an unenhanced stone, how do you like it?

Ordered an nonenhanced OEC for my cousin.  It is white in most lights, with occassional warmth in the shade.  We have noticed it, and it’s no big deal.

I have read about them being yellowish in some lights, have you noticed this? Is it occasional, frequent, or all the time?

In the shade, sometimes indoors depending on lighting condition.  The warmth will show and you will notice it depending on the lighting at the place you spend most of your time at.  For example, if the lighting in your living room makes the shade warmer–then you will notice it every time you are in your living room.  Or if at your office.  So this is a toss up because you never know HOW the lighting in your area will show your moissanite.

I haven’t been able to find very many places to buy moissanite. The one place I keep coming back to is moissaniteco.com. I have talked to them and read their warranty and return policy, and it seems pretty standard. Has anybody ordered from them? What kind of experience did you have?

There are Schubach’s Jewelers, WinkCZ, Moissanite(dot)com, etc.  I have tried Schubach’s, Wink, and MoissaniteCo.  I have a pair of earrings from MoissaniteCo–have had it for 4 years no problem.

I am a little turned off by only being able to return/fix the rings for 30 days free of charge. has anybody had this be a problem?

This is company policy that is on par with industry standard.  Because the liability cost of extending this return policy window increases the more you wear the ring, the company is reducing warranty cost this way.  Also, I feel like the customer should have done their own due diligence in inspecting the ring, making sure they actually like it, within those 30 days.

Does anybody know if the “simulated diamond” they have at JC Penny is actually moissanite?

No.  Moissanite will be called moissanite.  Simulated diamond is almost always a CZ.

I have a Forever Brilliant Moissanite from Rosado’s Box (Etsy store) and I’m obsessed!  It was very affordable and was appraised at a significantly higher value than what I paid for it.  You could probably find lovely rings in your budget there ๐Ÿ™‚

alynn91:  LOL then you’ll have to square that away with your Fiance with regards to properly inspecting the ring.  I mean, why don’t you just ask to see it when it comes to see it in every light and have him hide it when you feel satisfied with the color?

Pictures here are not really indications.  People’s experiences are not indications either–we all see color differently.  Buy and see for yourself is the best you can hope for.

I just received my 1ct moissy RHR from MoissaniteCo and I love it! It doesn’t seem yellowish to me, it just seems to reflect a lot of the colors around it (which I love).

And an example of the “rainbow effect” I’m talking about:

It’s a very cool stone!

I have an unenhanced moissanite from JTV.  Not a trace of yellow, beautiful clear stone.  Pics are coming, I promise.  It’s a larger stone, so I was a little concerned about quality, but I’m very happy with it.  It is a round solitaire, 3.10 ctw from Charles & Colvard with their lifetime warranty set in rose gold over sterling silver.  I plan to eventually upgrade the setting.

What shape are you looking for? Some shapes show more color – for example, rounds don’t show color as much as a square/princess. I have a 6mm (~1.3ct) square unenhanced moissanite, and it definitely has yellowish days. It’s kind of like a warm, buttery color. but then there are days that it’s completely white and almost blindingly sparkly! It’s definitely a moody stone, it’ll do different things depending on the lighting conditions (supermarkets and public bathrooms = sparkle city!). If that’s something you’ll be happy with, then moissanite will be the choice for you ๐Ÿ™‚

alynn91:  I have a 1ct unenhanced Round Brilliant and I really don’t see much “moodiness”. Honestly, it’s just a very pretty stone and I don’t see much color at all. If you’re staying under 1ct I don’t think you’d have any problems at all. I actually just ordered a 1.5ct unenhanced OEC today, so I’m waiting for that now! I love more “warmth” to my stones though.
