“Fake” is a relative term, if you’re expecting a moissy to look like a diamond…then yes, the larger it is, the more ‘fake’ it will look.  However, a moissy is a different gem…and while I understand why someone would want it to look like a diamond (whether they pass it off as one or just hope people make that assumption), at the end of the day it’s a different stone and will have its moments where it will look like one and moments where it won’t depending on the lighting etc.

If you go higher than a carat, you’re going to want to get an enhanced moissy otherwise it will have its signature tint.  I had a moissy ring and I ended up returning it–sometimes it turned warm yellowish colors and I really didn’t like that at all.  Other times it looked great, colorless and sparkly which is what I wanted.  I also tried a moissy eternity ring and I ended up returning it for the same reasons. My personal experience of course…I would try to check one out in person and see.

I have a moissanite with pave side stones and I love it! It isn’t the same as a diamond and does sometimes look yellow-y but that’s part of the reason I love it. Mine is only .75 carats so I don’t know about them looking ‘fake’ at 2.5 carats.

Also I don’t know how big you want it to look but on a size 4 finger 2.5 would look huge to me, but that’s just my personal opinion. I’d say either go in and see some in person or try on diamonds in the size you want just to get an idea of how big it would be.

And because I love it and for refrence for you, my ring is .75 carats and my finger is a 5.5:

If you buy a moissanite expecting it to be a diamond simulant and look exactly like a diamond, you will be disappointed. They’re cut differently, they sparkle differently, and they have a greenish tinge sometimes. You might love it (many people do!) but don’t expect it to look just like a diamond.
