Please be kind here. I need some advice. My husband was nice enough to get me a 7.5 mm H&A from MoissaniteCo.com it’s an E, VVS1. I love it and it’s a beautiful stone.
My wedding band, which I adore is an ungraded “G/H SI1” eternity band with teeny tiny stones, total ct weight is .32. Even thought it wasn’t expensive I truly love my wedding band.
My issue is that my rings don’t match and I feel like such a brat because I know I’m the only person in the world who notices. I love both rings on their own, but of course my wedding band holds more sentimental value.
It’s weird because on one had, my husband’s wedding band needs to be replaced and it doesn’t bother either of us (he’s currently using his “mangagement ring” as a stand in) and if I lost my band tomorrow I’d be sad, but I’d be OK wearing a replacement. We both feel rings don’t make a marriage and so long as we are wearing something that symbolizes our marriage we are happy. On the other hand, I’d feel like I was cheating on my wedding band if I replaced it 🙁
I’m super torn. The visual difference I’m seeing is that the diamonds are low quality, they’re likely I1 if not lower and return only white light, while my H&A does show a decent amount of “fire” (not as fiery as other moissy). I know this is partially because the stones are low quality, partially because it’s diamonds and partially because of the size difference in the stones.
I can get a band that’s very similar to what I have now in moissanite for about $300, which is nothing. Or my other idea was one day replacing my H&A with a lab diamond that’s lower in color probably a G – J, but even then I know I’d go for the best cut available and it’d probably outshine my wedding band still, plus at the end of the day we both agree spending so much money on a rock is silly (to us). I don’t really want a lab diamond over my H&A, it was just a solution I came up with.
It seems like my options come down to 1. Get over it (which is so much easier said than done because I’m Type A and this type of little stuff bothers the crap out of me.) 2. Get a replacement wedding band in moissy and despite the small size of the stones hope it shows a little fire and matches better (cost $300). 3. Eventually replace my H&A for a lab diamond and hope it matches better, but there’s no guarantee (cost $4,000 – $5,000).
Reading this back I know how stupid this is, honestly I do. I guess what it all boils down to is, would a moissanite eternity band with small stones match my E colored stone better than my diamonds? I do have a daughter with a second one on the way, so I could always put away my original wedding band and save it for them. Also, I could wait and get it at the same time we get my husband’s new band so it seems more symbolic.
Any advice on matching my new ering with a moissy wedding band would be super appreciated. Also, husband is fine with whatever I choose, he’s so nice about this stuff it’s crazy.
I’m sure someone is going to think I’m a nut job (I don’t blame you!) but I think this picture shows what I’m talking about. This was taken while I was waiting for my doctor haha, so exam room lighting.
