I would like to know if anyone can give me and idea if the amount of gold that Moissanite Co. uses is the average amount found in engagement rings? The ring I’m looking at is SOL-014-MC in the one carat two toned. It says the gold weight is 3.6-4.1 grams. Is that a small amount of gold for a 1ct moissanite?
Thanks for your help.

Is that the setting weight, or the gold weight? If it’s the gold weight that seems pretty standard.

rubyroundhouse : So … I don’t know if this helps or not, because I don’t have any experience with Moissanite Co.
But I am currently working on a custom ring project for a sapphire that is a little over 1 carat. I think it’s 1.24 or something like that. It’s a solitaire setting, and will be in 14K gold. On my CAD images, the weight of gold is listed at 4.26 grams for 14K. The setting has some design elements on the basket for the stone, but no halo. And the band is plain, although it will have engraving on it. So it seems like the amount on the Moissanite Co listing could be fairly standard … or at least within the same range.
I have other rings that have heavier design elements, and they also have a heavier weight in gold.

I think that’s average. And I believe their stock settings come from Stuller so I wouldn’t be too concerned. If it bothers you still, just ask for dimensions of the width and thickness of the band to make sure it’s sturdy enough for everyday wear. Most reputable jewelers want to stay around 2mm wide and 1.8mm thick.
