First off, hello to all the bees! This is my first post, and I am looking for honest answers about this. My SO and I decided to order sol216 from moissaniteco.com. http://www.moissaniteco.com/tapered-moissanite-solitaire-ring-p-6195:ae414699d3937932b49ae1efcd6eeb92.html
We asked if they could widen the band to 3.5 mm instead of 3mm. Because I love the look of a wider band on my hand (5.75 ring size). They were very helpful and said that would be no problem. And we decided on a 1 carat amora-ized stone. 4 prong setting. The problem is: 1) I have never seen a moissanite in real life 2) I changed the stock ring so who knows how it will turn out. It is custom so we cannot return it, but (hopefully) they will fix it if I hate it. I am very worried about it. I am concerned about the cut of moissanite because I have seen some real life pictures online that had a “hole” in the bottom where it should meet in a point. And maybe I should have left it at the 3mm and got a .75 carat stone. The largest stone I have seen on anyone around here is ~1 carat (excluding rich folk of course). But he’s been saving for 3 years and I decided on moissanite. So he could afford a diamond the same size. I guess theres just too many variables and I feel like I am taking a huge chance. Anyone think i’m unwise for custom ordering a ring and getting a stone I have never seen??

Hi there!! I think you will be ok! We went with moissanite and it turned out great!! I have also heard nothing but good things about MoissaniteCo so I’m sure everything will be ok!

@mbmerriman42: take a look on betterthandiamond.com – there are heaps of pics which may set your mind at ease and a moissaniteco gallery I think… I am having the same wonderings but never heard a bad thing yet. I actually ordered a little necklace in the sale as a ‘tester’ from them and it was perfect. Good luck!

Ummmmm ya. The “hole” you’re talking about is called a culet. Some stones have them some don’t. Some have large ones, some small some in between. It’s not a moissanite thing its a GEMSTONE (diamonds et all.) thing. Some ppl likthereof stones to have them some dont.

I think it would have been wise to at least check out the stone before committing to a ring, but I have done a ton of research on the company, and I have liked everything I’ve seen.
I ordered a stone to make sure I liked it in person, and it’s so beautiful! Are you more worried about the setting or the stone?

I have a 6.5mm amora moissy from betterthandiamond set in a very thin (2mm?) band. It does have the hole in the bottom that you mentioned, but it’s not because my moissanite has a culet, it seems to be due to the more shallow cut. I only noticed it because I held the loose stone up to the sun, but I don’t see it at all now that the stone has been mounted. Moissanite in real life is sparkly and gorgeous. I think you’ll love it.

thanks to all for the encouragement and reassurance..I have been researching moissanite for about a year now (never even heard of it before then) and have been reading that moissaniteco was the best place to work with. And so far they have been awesome.
@ Sutaru I love your stone and I can’t see the cutlet at all. If it looks like that, I will NEVER buy a diamond. Not that I can tell the difference anyways lol. And I love the color. Thanks so much!
@ SaucyMcgee I am more worried about the setting by far, the stone just adds to the equation a bit. I am picky with setting but I loved the stock picture of what I ordered. I have a cheap CZ ring in virtually the same setting but the CZ is much larger, as is the band. I loved the ratio from the band to the stone, so we used that as a model for this ring. I just hope it turns out.
I guess i’ll rock my HUGE stone 😀 and let my friends gawk at it. Most of my friends close to my age have ~.5-.75 carats as a center stone and older women here rarely have that. Hopefully it wont make anyone envious (ok maybe just a tid bit) haha

Have no fear when it comes to moissanite! Mine is a 2.2 carat, cushion cut and I love it! I didn’t want to waste the money to buy a diamond and the girls I work with who have diamonds are super jealous. I get more compliments on my ring, at least twice a week (for almost a soild year). Most people ask to see it up close and comment on how much it sparkles. I think it throws more sparkles then my diamond rings. It took A LOT of convincing and my fiance really was against it but he’s has seen how people react to it and he is happy that I love it. I wouldn’t change my mind and I try to convice friends who aren’t yet engaged to think about something other than diamonds.

I love my ring from there. Their customer service is awesome, btw.
I have a 6 prong 1.5ct solitaire on a 1.8mm band, and it was soo much better than I expected it to turn out. I was really shocked. Also, my ring is also a 5.75, same as yours. Hopefully that helps with perspective on what the stone size will look like on your finger.

i bet if you aren’t happy it sounds like they would try to fix it… i hope…

I think you’ll love it!! Moissanite is beautiful, and I think if you already know you like wider bands you’ll be fine. (It’s also not a huge difference from the original size so I wouldn’t worry too much about changing the stock image.)
Be sure and post when you get it!!

@lilsweetie: I bet they would, too.
My ring is from MoissyCo and I found them to be very helpful.

I got mine through better than diamond too I and I agree that they are wonderful.
It also depends on the stone. I got a cushion cut in 2.2 carats and it does look quite small “face up” meaning when you look at my finger. I did some research and it is stated that cushion cut look smaller. I am actually really happy about this though.

Here is my 2.2 carat. My fingers are 5.5.

@mbmerriman42: You were right to go with the enhanced, in my opinion. Some unenhanced stones are beautiful, but some are just blegh. I don’t really see the “hole” in mine, and hopefully your friends won’t be looking at your ring through a microscope! Most people just remark on how pretty it is, ask you about it, and then move on.
Moissaniteco was great to work with for us. I want to work with them again! Haha, think I can convince fiance that I need another one? You’ll love your moissanite ring. And I mean LOVE it. I’ve had mine for months and I’m still enamored by it.
