I think a 1.5 carat will look nice and big on your finger.  Especially since you’re considering a halo.  A 2 carat might be a bit overwhelming.  A 2 carat will also show more color.

It sounds very large for such a small hand to be honest with you. I don’t think it’ll look like a cocktail ring per se but I would think to myself, hmm I wonder if it’s a real diamond, not just because it’s over a carat and a half but because it would look even bigger on such a small hand.

Mine is a 6.5mm 1ct and I think it looks pretty nice on my hand and my ring size is a 7.5

Too big and people will assume it’s fake.

@Otaqueen:  That’s one of my favourite rings on moissyco! Would you be able to post a side shot? What are you thinking of doing for a wedding band?

@OP, I also agree that a 2ct would look a bit too big on your small finger, esp. with a halo. I think 1ct with a halo will still look really substantial on your hand and also look a bit more believable 🙂

For me personally, 2 cts sounds a bit large for your finger size and I do think it’s possible you might run into questions you said you want to avoid. Have you tried anything of that size on just to see?

In the months leading up to picking out a ring, I would go on ebay and buy $1 CZs in the sizes of the stones that I want, and compare them to my finger.  Or go to walmart, target, Marshall’s, etc. with a mm ruler and find a 1.5 / 2 ct stone, and at least try them on (I bought one of the cheaper ones, but never wore it. I just kept it around for when I was unsure of my choice!)

It depends on where you’re from.  Most of my friends have at least 1ct, mostly around 1.5ct diamonds.  I wouldnt think twice about seeing a 2ct stone and assue it was a diamond.  I dont know anything about a moissy looking like a diamond though at 2ct, I’ve only see a .75 moissy before, and it looked passable to me without close observation.

My center stone is an 8mm (2 carat) sapphire and my halo is about normal size, not too large. My fingers are about a 4.5 but I love my 8mm stone. I think it’s totally about personal preference though. I would agree with one of the bees above, you should atleast try on and maybe wear a 7.5mm and 8mm ring before you make your decision. They look so much different when you see them actually on your finger than they do online or in pictures on here!

I am sure your ring will be gorgeous though whatever size you choose! 🙂

It will look large on your small finger, but not like a cocktail ring.  For myself, I’m not really concerned with people thinking it’s fake, because I’m not trying to pass it off as a diamond.  I can afford a 2ct moissy. Heh. If that’s what you want, then I say go for it.

I’ve seen this posted here a few times.

I am a size 4.5 with a 2.1 carat diamond in a halo setting, and my bf’s mom said “you know people are probably going to think its fake.” So, if I were buying a moissanite and trying to pass it off as a diamond I would definitely get no larger than a 1.25 carat ESPECIALLY with a halo.
