I got a moissanite because I wanted a forever stone I wouldn’t need to replace every few years. I like the available cuts on the ashas much better (like their chunky cushions) but it would eventually become cloudy and need to be replaced. So I researched moissanite and fell in love. I did not buy it intending to pass it off as a diamond though. If I was looking for a diamond simulant I’d have definitely chosen an Asha. I do not think Asha looks like costume jewelry, but I will say the step cuts leave something to be desired in terms of how “real” they appear, and at the moment moissanite is not available in step cut (but I hear they are working on a step cut Amora gem!!)

Here’s my moissanite ring.

@Lola518:  I think the step cuts look glassy, yes. But the cushions, rounds, princess cuts, anything not step cuts are spectacular, really lovely. Have you checked out the Better Than Diamond boards? There is a whole discussion board devoted to asha with tons of pics, testimonials, honest opinions and experiences. I frequent daily to scope out the new eye candy. Also do a search here for asha, many of the Bees have gorgeous asha rings, AmeliaBedelia’s ring is one of my favorites, tons of sparkle. http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/moissy-038-asha-owners-i-have-questions

I just wanted to show you some pics of an asha. I just got it today its a 4 carat cushion cut asha F/G color. These pics do not do it justice at all. It is GORGEOUS in person and so sparkly. I didnt even realize how big of a difference there was until i put it next to my regular cz ring which is a 3 carat princess.

Sorry about the big pics

I got Moissanite for the same reasons KatyElle listed (: I also love how much it sparkles, it’s so glittery. Here’s a picture of mine:

The only moissanites I’ve seen in person are the poor quality ones sold at JC Penny and department stores, so I can’t give a good opinion on the enhanced ones sold at dealers like moissaniteco.

I have two Asha.  One is a round that I bought probably close to 9 years ago (when they first came out), the second is a princess cut that I bought probably in 2004 or 2005.  I think they are on version 6 now, so I don’t know what version either of mine are.  Both the round and the princess are in solitaire settings.

I am not that impressed with the round one.  I have a round real diamond of a similar size and the real diamond looks so much more deep than the Asha.  For someone looking at your hand quickly, the Asha certainly can pass off as a real diamond, but mine looks a bit more plasticy than I had hoped.

I am however, impressed with the princess cut one.  For whatever reason, it looks more realistic than the round.  I wear it once in a while, so it doesn’t get the daily wear as it would if it were my real e-ring, but I have not noticed it becoming cloudy.  I clean them in the ultrasonic cleaner like my real diamond.

I’m sorry I don’t have any pictures to share.  If it’s sunny tomorrow maybe I’ll take some.

I agree, the BTD boards give you all sorts of great pictures.

I have an Asha. I was originally going to get an Amora-enhanced moissanite, but this was right around when they announced the Amora Gem. We decided to get the Asha now, save some money (it was about $400 cheaper with Asha) then when the Amora Gem comes out, buy a losse one and see if we want to upgrade.

I personally adore my asha. It sparkles like crazy, is crystal clear and white. I ordered the H color stone to cut down on the steeliness/glassiness that some people report as being fakey looking, and it is just wonderful.

I chose moissanite because like a PP said, I wanted a forever stone.  I think asha is beautiful too, but I like moissy sparkle more.  I also am not trying to pass it off as a diamond.  I would check out that forums here http://betterthandiamond.com/discussion/ubbthreads.php/forum_summary, because there are a lot of asha owners there and you will be able to see more pics.

Everyone has already pointed you to the Better Than Diamond boards, so I am sure I will see you over there, but I too am going with moissanite (an unenhanced one). This is my LAST reset, so I want this to be my forever stone in my forever rings. Even more important, as I am going with a bezel which are not so easy to switch stones out of without damage to the bezel (or the stone).

I also like moissy for moissy – as in I like the warmer colour, the moodiness of the stone, the depth of it, and so on. I have NEVER liked colourless stones (be it diamonds or otherwise) and did not even know I liked diamonds until I discovered warmer ones and fancier colours!). I was not interested in passing it off as a diamond, and while I know many Asha owners are proud to say they wear an Asha, I do think Asha tends to be more suitable for those trying to pass their stones. I do think Asha rounds, cushions, etc tend to be very believable if you are trying to pass and do not look like “costume jewelery”. I have only seen the step cuts online and do think they lack the depth of real diamonds and have a glassier appearance…but then again I think a D, IF, excellent polish, etc diamond also actually looks glassier…few people have seen such stones in real life to see that though!

The Amora Gem will be whiter than current moissanite (like an F) and they have announced certain step cuts (Asscher) and there is a lot of clamouring for them to also come out with Krupps, Emeralds, etc, that are not done in the current moissanite. If that whiter look is important to you! I think for now, if you are looking for a cushion or something, the Amora enhanced moissanite is just fine and will give you a lovely white-warm stone (if you want a little less colour than unenhanced offers).

I finally got around to taking a couple of pics.  Warning that I am not the best photographer and my camera has a habit of just dying on me.  I don’t know how some of you take such great photos!

Anyway, I seem to have misplaced my round Asha, but here is the princess one.  It’s a 1.5ct on a size 6 finger.

And here it is with my real diamond wedding band.  They usually don’t look so blue in person; they are reflecting the blue shirt was wearing when I took the photos.
