@klaox3:  Mine looks identical to my diamond, if not even prettier. You would have no trouble passing it off if you choose to do so. You really have to see one in person to see how truly gorgeous they are!

As long as your center stone isn’t ginormous, people will assume that it’s a diamond, whether you want them to or not. Does moissanite look different than a diamond?  Sure there are some differences, but honestly, nobody is looking.

I love my (1ct, amora-enhanced) moissanite, and preferred it over a comparably sized, comparably-speced diamond (which was also in-budget).  The stone is very white and throws a lot of color.  I don’t notice any yellow-gray tint in the stone.  I’ve also had a pair of unenhanced moissanite earrings for ~3 years now, and the stones look as perfect as when I bought them.

@joya_aspera:  they don’t look even remotely similar to that. I would definintely liken them to diamonds if I were to liken them to anything.

OP, moissanite doesn’t photograph well AT ALL. it’s so hard to capture the beauty and the sparkle in the stone through a photograph.

Your best best would be to order a loose stone and see for yourself. They do accept returns and if you are considering it for your e-ring, I would highly recommend doing that. No amount of pictures online can prepare you for their beauty and fire.

@jdhall89:  this is possibly the most beautiful picture of a moissanite I have ever seen.

The rainbow bust of sparkles only happens in certain lighting conditons, in the majority of lighting I find it to be more subtle and in lower light is when it really pops.  I do occaisionally notice a yellow/green colour to the stone in certain lights, but the majority of the time it looks colourless.  I tell everyone it is a moissanite, and other girls will hold up their rings next to mine and it is not much different.

The ophthalmologist here loves diamonds, and looks at everyones rings with her slit lamp (bright light and magnification for looking at the eye).  She was looking at mine before I had a chance to say what it was, and her comment was “I have never seen a diamond cut like that before”.

It is a pretty, colourless stone and price was the reason I went with moissanite.  People will say if you want a diamond, you will only be happy with a diamond.  I disagree, it is a lovely stone that is budget friendly and I am glad I have one.  Order a loose stone that you can return if you don’t like it to see for yourself.

@pixiecat:  Oh I completely agree! I wanted a diamond but this was more affordable and I absolutely adore it. I wouldn’t have it any other way now.

To echo Pp’s, if you want something that looks like a diamond, get a diamond.  As far as sims go, moissanite’s not a very good one.  Cz’s are far better sims, especially warmer colored ones. It does seem like the smaller you go, the less distinctively moissy/more diamond like it is.

If you’re really interested in moissy, order a loose one and see how you like it.

My 2 cents is that if we’d gone with a clear stone, I would have gone with a moissanite.  I think it’s an amazing stone because of its optical properties and durability.  I like the fire, sparkle, and rainbows.  I wouldn’t have tried to “pass it”, though.

OP, I just received my Moissanite ring yesterday in the mail- and I’ve got to be honest with you, I wasn’t prepared for all the the rainbows. Really, I can’t say I was overwhelmed with the stone when I first saw it- because of the lighting situation where I opened the box.

I have read and read and studied up on Moissanite as much as possible- watched all of the videos on youtube, looked at threads on this site constantly, and it never sank in as to how much the lighting situation effects how the stone appears. I truly equated it’s “moodiness” to how yellow/white the stone appeared- not the rainbow sparkles.

This being said, I held it in many lighting situations last night and today, and I love the stone overall. The way it sparkles is incredible, and the colors it throws are so vivid, and this effect has grown on me. It’s always surprising me with how it appears.

Again, as PP’s have said, if you want a diamond, get a diamond. Or at least order a loose stone so you know what you are getting into! Good luck!

I had the same concerns about seeing it in person although I had already fallen in love with moissanite. My fiance had serious reservations since the original diamond ring we bought from online was horrible quality (was suppose to be H/I in color… was more like J/K and suppose to be VS1 in clarity but was EASILY an I3… horrible). Anyway… I ended up contacting Charles & Colvard directly to ask them if they had a place near me that I could see moissanite in person. They referred me to two jewelers in Raleigh & Cary,NC  (we live in Wilmington, NC so a 2.5 hour drive isn’t so bad). It was well worth the day trip to go put my sweetie’s mind at ease (he LOVED the moissanite and the sparkle) and the jeweler we chose was amazing to work with. They get their moissanite directly from C&C and had 1,000s of settings to choose from. I’m not kidding… the sales lady brought out a book that was about 4 inches thick! I’ve had my ring for three days now and am thoroughly pleased with our purchase. Yesterday I accidently slammed (HARD) my hand into an iron faucet and was scared to look at my ring, but I did and absolutely no scratches, marks, bumps… nothing! It’s built like a boss and I love it. Anywho… long post, sorry.  Laughing  But I’d email C&C and see if they can help you out. Getting duped over any internet store is a crushing experience, I know. And here’s my ring if it’ll help you out any. Size 6.25 one carat Forever Brilliant round with a .18 carat halo set in palladium!

@klaox3:  I understand your concern! My OH and I just recently bought a 1.5 Amora Moissanite to use as the center stone in what will be my engagement ring. We were hesitant about buying it online (we used moissaniteco.com) and were unsure as to whether we’d love it as much after seeing it in person. But we fell in love with it and have decided to keep it. It’s beautiful! I would order a stone to see yourself. You can return it if you don’t like it or have it set if you do. Honestly, though, it’s beautiful! I bet you’ll fall in love!

Here are some pictures, both loose and with it stuck to a ring so I could see what it looked like with a band 😉 1.5 round brilliant on a size 7 finger, for reference.

I will only say this: a girl I work with and socialize with frequently whose ring I’ve gushed over multiple times over the last year told me LAST WEEK that her stone is a moissanite.

I never would’ve guessed. It’s gorgeous.

I love moissanite. I think it is more beautiful than diamond, personally. I have a 3ct Amora Enhanced Old European Cut Moissanite (J color).

Here is a pic of my moissanite (on the right) and an OEC H color diamond:

I think the diamond has more of the icy white color, but I TOTALLY prefer my moissanite over this diamond, and have yet to try on a diamond that I liked as much as my moissy.

I used to work with someone who had a moissanite… I knew it wasn’t a diamond but I didn’t know what exactly it was. I actually thought it was CZ, like a high quality one. It was definitely pretty though
