I believe that what you’re seeing is just the way the moissanite round brilliants are cut.

Moissy doesn’t have a H&A cut (yet!) but it probably does have something to do with the way its cut.

Well, sorta.  Moissanite RBs are cut differently than diamonds.  A cutlet shouldn’t be visible on a Ring Bearer.  A cutlet looks like a small hole at the bottom if you’re looking at the stone from the top.

@mspartridge:  Cutlets don’t make stones “bad” ๐Ÿ™‚ but I do think cutlets are a matter of personal preference. I would check with Moissanite to find out if they are cut to have small or no cutlets.

@mspartridge:  It depends on the cut! In older stones, cutlets were very common/popular. You can look on bluenile and similar sites, and when it gives you the specs for each some times it’ll say Cutlet: No, or small, or large, etc. It’s just a different “style” of cut, just like, say, cushions can be square or more rectangular in proportion, it just depends on how it was cut.

@mspartridge:  I think most modern stones, it’ll either be a very small or just small cutlet. Larger cutlets are often on much older vintage stones. Most of the very small cutlets, you shouldn’t see a circle at the bottom. Ohhh you should try Jamesallen.com too! They actually have images of each individual diamond that you can look at to compare so you can see the difference.

And according to GIA, that’s a very small cutlet! ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, you’re seeing a cutlet.  I have a Ring Bearer moissanite and I can barely see it.  I mean, I have to really look for it… it’s like a pinpoint.  Your eyes may be better than mine. ๐Ÿ™‚
