I recently picked out a FB 1.1 cushion cut moissanite engagement ring for my soon to be Fiance to order. I’m hoping that I made the right choice, seems that it is just as beautiful of a stone at a third of the cost. We could have potentially afforded a diamond ring, but it would have probably been 3/4 karat and our savings would be significantly smaller. Since we just bought a beautiful new home and have a little one on the way, I figured we should spend more money on home decor and save for the baby instead of going all out with a diamond. Plus, I hear people can hardly tell the difference between the two stones. Please, ladies, post pictures of your diamond or moissy rings to prove if there is a huge difference or not and let me know your opinions! Thanks girls =)
Here is a link to the ring we ordered, feedback is appreciated =)

I would choose diamond it seems like that was your preference without thinking of cost 3/4 is still a nice size but your choice to save money for baby is sensible.
Would you hope people think is diamond?

When first looking for a ring my preference was diamond, but then I stumbled across some info on moissanite and researched further into the stone. After watching the movie Blood Diamond and learning more about the slave labor and all the other terrible things that happen in order to obtain diamonds, PLUS the cost, my preference changed to moissanite =). A 3/4 karat diamond ring in our price range wouldn’t be nearly as flawless or colorless as the forever brilliant moissanite stone that we ended up ordering, so hopefully I made the right choice, still waiting for my ring to come, but so far all I have heard is excellent feedback from the ladies on here that have already gotten there moissanite rings =). I also read that moissanite is more scratch resistant than diamonds as well… another plus.

I think it’s interesting that people keep making ethical claims about slave labor when in fact since 2002 over 99% of diamonds sold in north america are conflict free, you can purchase canadian diamonds if that is really important to you, and diamond mining and sales support the economies of many third world countries.
The environmental claims are valid, but this one is an excuse for self-righteousness, imo.

Get what ever you want! Moissanite seems like the right call now and there’s always diamonds later.
Also, totally agree with
sc5645: the vast majority of diamonds are traded through fair and transparent channels. Ethical diamonds are vital to the future and stability of Africa, so don’t kid yourself that you’d be doing the African bebes any favors by stopping demand of their most lucrative national resource. Nelson Mandela has spoken out repeatedly about this. There are many stores that specialize in ethical diamonds, from humane working conditions and sustainable mining operations that fund African schools, governments, HIV clinics, roads & infrastructure, employ 1000s safely etc.
Also, Moissanite is not more scratch resistant than diamonds. Diamonds are the absolute hardest gem. But moissys hardness will get you by just fine so long as you arent scratching it with diamonds lol.

The top picture is of my 1.51 carat G si1 round brilliant diamond (set in the ring) and a 7.5mm 1.5 carat forever brilliant oec moissy(loose). The second picture is of the oec moissanite, and the last picture is of the diamond both set in the same ring.

You could also look into the amora gem ultra. They look more diamond like than moissanite and are still much cheaper than a diamond. They do make cushion cuts too but I’m not sure if there is any in stock in your desired carat weight.

reaganalexa1229: I think it’s just personal preference! For me, I’m a diamond girl and to be honest I had never heard of moissanites before joining the bee however I find them equally as beautiful and obviously more budget conscious. Again, you could always upgrade to a diamond later if that was something you wanted to do! Here’s my 1.3 RB, H color, VS1 Diamond.

I’m personally going with a moissanite! They’re a fraction of the cost, and really, an engagement ring doesn’t have to be a diamond to be an engagement ring. Diamonds, even though they are so beautiful and I LOVE staring at them here on the Bee, they’re really overpriced for what they are.
We went to our jeweller yesterday to see our Forever Brilliant moissanite, and they were breathtaking. They were so perfectly colourless and flawless, so sparkly and at FRACTION of the cost of a diamond that I can’t believe I even considered diamonds before. I wish I had pictures of them to show you!
For me it’s important to not spend a lot of money on a ring, because as much as I do want an e-ring, it’s more important for me to save for our house, our future children and things like that (same reasons as you 🙂 ) – so moissanite was an easy choice for me. After seeing them in person yesterday, I am 100% sold.
Pictures really don’t do them justice though, I recommend going to a jeweller and asking around if they can order some moissanite so you can see it in person (or ordering it on moissaniteco.com and just returning it).
Forever Brilliant Moissante is soooo amazing, 100% conflict free, environmentally friendly and very wallet friendly, and still makes for an amazingly beautiful engagement ring. I promise that everyone would assume it’s a diamond because unless they’re side by side under a microscope being studied by a gemologist, you really can’t tell the difference!

It’s totally up to you and your preference. Diamonds and moissanites are both beautiful, just like other stones out there. It depends on what you want and how much you want to spend and what you like to see on your finger. I would have been happy with anything my hubby got me as it would have come from him. I am very happy with the diamond he chose for me – just the fact he put all that effort into getting it for me and wanting me to have something he thought I would love. Here’s my custom engagement ring and wedding band.

I too never heard of moinsanite until getting on this site. I have a 2.13 ct K si2 triple excellent
the surroundings diamonds on my ering and wedding band are VVS – VS G,H
which brings me to another option, before you buy anything think of this, if the cut is excellent you can go up to a K SI2 and it will be less expensive, look for those diamonds as well don’t stick just Around the G and H, there is a premium for the G and H and a J and K at the better cut can compete And be much less $$$
i love diamonds and they are my preference.

I have both diamond rings and moisanite rings. I can easily tell them apart in most lighting, the moissanite has a lot more color to it and also sparkles a lot more. If you want it to look more like a diamond you should probably get an enhanced moissanite, but both are beautiful options so just go with whatever one you like most.

I prefer diamonds, but really superficially for no other reason that it’s a diamond! if you got it hoping people would think it’s a bigger diamond than I’d personally go for the smaller diamond, I think long term this would be better. Personal opinion, but you did ask!
