penny1403 :  Just curious – in one picture the moissanite is loose and in another picture the diamond is loose – can you tell which is which?

katek90 :  I got mine from brilliant earth. They sell mined and lab diamonds and moissanite and have showrooms in a few cities around the country where you can view and compare which I found super helpful. I went to two showrooms and knew already that I wanted a lab diamond but it was still cool to compare them to natural diamonds and also helped me determine which of the 4 c’s were visually most important to me and worth spending more/less money on. I unfortunately didn’t look at the moissanite while I was there. Like you said, we are lucky and have the money to purchase whatever stone we want, but I had a hard time with the ethical part of diamond mining and loved the more reasonable prices of lab diamonds that are exactly the same otherwise!

At the end of the day, this is a choice only you can make.

I totally agree with your thoughts on the diamond industry. I went ring shopping knowing I didn’t want to get a diamond, but I didn’t know what gemstone I wanted. After trying on a lot, I really liked traditional sapphires.

I would highly suggest trying on rings. I would try to find a store in your area that has moissanites to try on and see what you think.

My husband and I could have got almost any ring I wanted. But imo, that’s dumb. We both are more about experiences. So instead, we had our dream 2 week long honeymoon.

It’s up to you but make sure to go with your gut and what you really want. Not what other people expect.

katek90 :  Have you seen moissanite in real life? They can be rather noticeably moody. Also, a moissanite of that size can be purchased rather inexpensively online for around $50-$150. If you want a moissanite, I would probably recommend that option over a branded one. Also, have you considered gemstones? You could set an exquisite ruby or sapphire. Another option is estate diamonds which are priced cheaper. Personally, I would rather wear a diamond/sapphire/ruby ring or a plain band over a moissanite, as I feel moissanite or CZ would cheapen what is supposed to be precious. Finally, you could consider alternates to the solitaire/embellished solitaire. Eternity rings can be very classy and comfortable.

Just picked up my loose moissanite from FedEx. ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s night here and I don’t have great indoor lighting but I am SO impressed and already really happy with my decision to go this route. I owned an excellent cut diamond for almost 5 years and starred at it almost everyday… also owned an ideal cut lab diamond for a short time and this moissy looks just as nice to me. Definitely not like cellophane bags… lol wut?

Mine is the F1 round brilliant hearts & arrows 1.5 ct G-H color in case anyone is wondering.

DrAtkins :  I know this wasn’t directed towards me, but this is interesting! I can tell the difference, but I’m also wondering if you know the specs of the diamond? I’ve heard that moissanite looks different to some people because it mimics the higher quality diamonds vice the standard mid-spec rocks that us normies wear. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

madamesuperstarmcawesomeville :  Diamond is a 1.15ct K Si1 VG cut, moissanite is a Forever Brilliant 1 ct equivalent ๐Ÿ˜‰ (both OECs)

penny1403 :  I see it but I also think that’s just an extremely unflattering pic of that particular stone… I mean the moissanite I just got looks nothing like iridescent cellophane.

This is a totally personal decision.

I’m a bit of a traditionalist so we went with a diamond.

I would suggest taking your time and trying some on and seeing them in real life. xo

MrsGirlyGirl :  I concur as I have never seen moissanite look like iridescent cellophane in real life. Now mercury mist topaz is a spot on dupe! A gorgeous dupe though ๐Ÿ˜.
