I have a diamond. I had never heard about moissanite before the bee. Honestly, even though I know the benefits of moissys and think they’re gorgeous, I probably still would have got a diamond. What can I say, all the marketing ploys have worked on me. At least I’m honest? Lol.

I’ve had both, my original set was diamond and when i lost it I had already had 3 children so to save money I went with moissanite and I love it. Doesn’t matter to me They are both beautiful.

I would get a diamond, no doubt. That would make me happier in the long run. Rather a small diamond than a big moissy for me! I can’t get my heart to even consider moissy. I’d rather get a white sapphire or some other white gem before a man made stone, regardless of the moissy being more durable than them! πŸ™‚

I’m so happy with my choice to get a moissy. My emerald cut flashes like crazy!

beachbumm105:  Same :p mine’s a diamond, and as much as moissanites are gorgeous, I wouldn’t want one. (Don’t judge anyone who does though, to each their own!)

shelbyyyg:  I never heard of mossys until here. It sounds like the smart choice for you. Investing in a house is a smarter financial move than a ring. When people post diamonds V moissanites I cannot tell the difference unless it is the size of a small boulder. I am not a fan of stones over 2 1/2- 3CT anyway no matter what they are, not my style for myself. Whatever works for the person is the best choice.

I do have a diamond. That is what worked for us.

shelbyyyg:  For me it was really about money. I wanted a larger stone and there was no way we could afford a diamond in the size I wanted and quality anytime soon. For me moissanite is perfect and worked out the best for us. One day if we can afford an amazing quality diamond in the future maybe I will get one, but to be honest it’s really not that important to me.

DH is more the one who feels I should have a diamond xD If he wants to do that for me in the future it is not like I will complain lol.

I personally wanted what I wanted. If I would have gone with a diamond I would not have been happy since I was looking for something bright white and a larger carat size. It doesnt bother me that it is man made. It is beautiful, sparkles like mad and that is all I really cared about! I was able to afford and design my dream ring well under budget and couldn’t be happier! Do what is best for you and what your heart desires πŸ™‚ Moissanite is not for everyone but if you want to save money and have bigger stone etc. I would say it is the best bet.

Diamond. a small sparkly diamond in a simple elegant setting. Saving for a house is sensible so I’d go for diamond and go to pricescope forum to get help to get the best one for my budget.  Id also look at secondhand.

I have both, and even though I understand the practicality of a moissy I don’t wear mine. Its pretty but to me, its all about the diamond; I am a tratraditionalist, so to me the engagement ring is purely something pretty, like flowes. You dont buy them because they are practical, you buy them because they are beautiful.

Im not trying to come across judgmental, I am one of the most practical people but not with a diamond πŸ˜‚

Between a nice diamond and a moissanite (or an Amora Gem if we throw those in as options), I do definitely prefer a diamond. Moissanites/AGs ARE beautiful in their own right, but though is difficult to tell in photos or videos as much, in person there is a difference in how they perform. Most people in your life (or my life!) would never pick up on this but I always saw it and knew it. To me there is also a “mind clean” issue – I like diamonds (and any other natural gemstone) for the fact they are from the ground, and for me, as I prefer old cut diamonds, they have unique histories, character, etc. Moissanites/AGs always felt too perfect for me.

That being said, because I also had other priorities for many years, I wore a moissanite as my engagement ring (I actually got it after marriage) because it was still more affordable than the smaller diamonds I was looking at, and had a couple spares for fun πŸ™‚ I only recently, after several years of marriage, got my dream diamond ring. I did sell my colourless moissanites to help fund the diamond ring, and no regrets there, though I did get a coloured moissanite ring second hand as a fun right hand ring and am not opposed to other moissanites as RHRs in the future. But without a doubt, if I had to only have one ring I would choose my diamond ring. It appeals to me in a way none of the moissanites do or ever did.

So my answer is, either is absolutely fine but it all depends on what calls to you. Don’t get a moissanite or AG expecting it to be “just like a diamond” or if your desire is really for a diamond. But if you want to think a moissanite/AG is beautiful for what it is, want to save some money, and so on, then go for if. I do recommend seeing one or two in person before deciding, and I also recommend being practical about size, especially if you want to “pass it” for most part. It is your choice of course, but I would prefer a bit smaller diamond of great specs over a much larger moissanite.

If you DO want a diamond, set a budget, and head over to Pricescope (Rocky Talky) and let them help you pick a beautiful diamond – and even setting – for your budget. If you are willing to go second hand, you can stretch your dollar even more.

Never heard of moissanite until after joining this forum.  I would not want a moissanite but I enjoy seeing them–very beautiful.  I’m not looking for the rainbow sparkle and I already have a large diamond (8mm).

I’m not a hypocrite I understand the ethical violations of diamonds.  Also of textile industry and shoe industry–I’ve visited some of these factories of my clients to determine their worth during M&A when I was an analyst.  I dont declare myself better than anyone as our choices will never be purely good.  I try to minimize my contribution to this world but Im lying if I said I’m purely ethical consumer.

Go with your gut. If you don’t think you will be able to be fully happy with a moissanite, then get a diamond. But if you’re like me and you just want a sparkly stone, moissanite is a great way to get a sizable ring AND your house deposit (I would be happy with CZ, but they go cloudy, so I think moissanite/sapphire is better.) I personally think the lab created aspect is cool too, it feels kind of high tech and futuristic.

I would 100% go for moissanite. We only automatically think diamond because we are programmed to think engagement = diamond. If you personally love the idea of having a diamond and what it stands for and the fact it’s the norm then get a diamond. However, if you would like a diamond purely becuase you just like the LOOK of a diamond – a flawless, sparkly colourful stone – then I would seriously consider the moissanite. Your fiance’s money will go further and you can get a bigger and more attractive stone at a fraction of the price of a conventional diamond.

I have a small diamond. It was expensive but it’s ethnically sourced (Tiffany).  Plus I like diamonds are so old, natural and each is unique.  I would not want any diamond simulant including foreverone, cz, amora gem as my engagement ring. I think it’s ok for a splurge for a ring I’ll have forever and will eventually hand down.   As a fun ring, a man made simulant would be fine though.  Moissante is very pretty!
