Arae83:  “I would rather see my money growing in investment accounts than sitting on my finger.

That was a jab, aka shade.

MeandMyLouboutins:  just to clarify…as WAY too much has been made of the “poser” comment…I liken to me expressing that “wearing blue eyeshadow makes me feel like a clown”. It’s not to say that everyone who wears blue eyeshadow is a clown, it’s to say that is the way it makes me FEEL so my personal CHOICE is to wear brown eyeshadow instead.

I find it hilarious when people put down diamonds for these reason:

Why spend xxx amount on a ring when we can use that for a down payment  on a house.

Why spend xxxx amount on a ring? I would rather keep that in my savings account and watch it grow.

or the best one I am NOT materialistic and love my fiance too much to allow him to spend xyz on a ring.

AND the killer part is half of the moisannites or CZ are 2.5 to 4 cts. Just admit you can’t afford the diamond you want and that’s why you went with a moissanite.

Alright, how do we go about shutting this down? Clearly, we can’t be adults about this and every new post that isn’t like “WTF?” is about trying to throw more shade like a jealous teenager and I’m sick of it.

Sorry OP.

Ok…for what it’s worth. I have a 1.5 F, si1 GIA solitaire. Last week I was in St.Martin and popped into a jewelry shop. The owner let me try on this whopper of a 3 carat. It was amazing.

He then said, “This is a Moissanite.” I was stunned. I really could not tell the difference between the two, at least not under the bright light in the shop. I told my fiance that I would now be ok with selling my 1.5 and getting a 2.5 moissanite (a 3 was much too big), but he said that he prefers that I have the real thing and will upgrade me to a 2.5 in a few years. It’s mainly a pride thing for him. For me, I honestly never thought that I would like Moissanite much less be fooled by how similar to a diamond it is and will now buy earrings.

FWIW, I had bought an Amora gem last summer and returned it immediately, since it looked fake as soon as I saw it.

HEYO.

I bought a moissanite ring because I was more concerned about the setting than the center stone. My train of thought was that we couldn’t afford the size diamond at the time, so we spent the major chunk of change on the setting. AT THE TIME, I was all “OMG I picked THE BEST stone because I saved $5k on it and it’s JUST as good and I got engaged faster. And I love it bc it was made in a lab and not pulled out of the Earth..” yada yada yada.

Well it turns out that my moissanite gets a nasty film on the top that needs constant cleaning and babying and now I really wish I had a diamond – but recognize that getting a moissanite let us move our relationship to the next level faster than if we would have saved up for a diamond. I will eventually replace my moissy with a diamond, but keep my original setting.

Moral of the story is that get what works for YOU. If it doesn’t work, change it. At the end of the day, they’re all just material things (luxury items none-the-less) and we can all live without them.

stefzbee:  You’re right, maybe that does sound judgemental though I didn’t intend it that way.  I apologize for offending you or anyone else.

Perhaps a better way to phrase it is that I wanted a 2 ct ring.  I looked at diamonds and I looked at Amora and I couldn’t tell the difference, so I bought at the lower price point for a variety of reasons.
