Miss Tattoo showed all the specs on moissy compared to diamond and we can all see in clear black and white that it is superior in every catagory except strength. But a 9.25 is plenty strong enough so for thousands and thousands of dollars more just to have something a smidge stronger on my hand doesnt really do much for me. We are going moissanite, just have to get the stone set & idk what that will occur, (it’s up to the MR.) but I can honestly say that I am getting a million times MORE ring for my dollar having gone moissanite as opposed to traditional diamond. A custom halo setting & 3 ct. moissy for less than the cost of a 1ct. diamond in solitaire setting. I say heck YES & heck NO to tradition.

@Kat: OMG! You must post pictures when you get it!

I only posted the specs because some people get really offended when someone says “moissanite has more sparkle than a diamond.” They take it as an insult when it’s just the truth. It’s not an opinion like Droid is better than iPhone or grape jelly is better than strawberry.

Anyway, I want to save up for a moissy tennis bracelet.

I have a moissanite ring and i love love love love it! I catch people staring at it all the time because it’s SO darn sparkly… and Ms Tattoo is right, the best part is that it sparkles all the time! Mine is I think technically a 1.5 Carat, but it sure looks big to me (and I even have a 1.5mm band!)! It was definitely nervewracking choosing moissanite without seeing one in person, and you can only read so much about them…. we made sure to chose a company that would let us return it, just in case. Mine is also unenhanced 🙂  ((Sorry this picture’s not that great, but it shows you the sparkle just under the flash from an iphone!))

I love my moissanite ring.. there’s NO WAY my Fiance would have been able to afford a diamond this size for a looong time.. I’m constantly window shopping at diamond rings that look so similar to mine but more than 10x the price!

For me personally I chose moissanite not only to fit our budget, but that I simply would not feel comfortable walking around every day with a piece of jewellery that could’ve been a deposit on a house on my clumsy lil finger.

@Miss Tattoo: Yeah I totally get your point. I don’t think my moissanite is better than anybodies diamond, but the proof of its superior optical properties is clear to be seen in the index and not merely an opinion. But I have to say, I don’t see why tradition dictates that somebody spend 10x as much for a diamond. It makes me mad that diamond companies get into ppl’s minds that way & make them feel as though they HAD to go diamond, because it was the only true way. Not so…

But anywho! So excited for when I get my moissy set! I actually LOVE your ring sooo much & I sent you a message about it a while ago asking where you got it! I just decided I wanted to go custom because I never want to upgrade, so I want to get the “dream ring” the first time around, plus my BF loves the setting we will be getting. I can’t post pics for a while since he hasn’t proposed & idk when he will..

I have a diamond and I like it. I would consider (and have mentioned to FI) moissanite earrings, but he wouldn’t buy them for me (he’s a traditionalist). Personally I would not have been happy with a moissanite ring because I feel like people would assume it was diamond and that would make me really uncomfortable– like I was trying to hide something. But I don’t have any opinion on what others choose to do. As long as you and your Fiance agree on something I think that is great and is all that matters!

Fiance could afford a diamond which is good b/c I only wanted a diamond haha. My ring is a Emerlad Cut with trazpezoid step cut sides, not a very popular cut these days and I love it more because of this. FI had to find a diamond with no visible inclusions for this type of cut so I’m sure if we would have looked at moissanites it would have been easier to find one, I’m guessing since they are man-made they must be pretty much perfect? I just wanted a diamond though, old fashion I guess 😉

I would consider moissanite earrings or a moissanite right hand ring. I saw pink moissanites online and those are beautiful too!

How funny and timely, but a good friend just got engaged and they chose a HUGE moissey!  My God, it’s so pretty and in a halo setting with pink stones (I think they are also moissonite – they are really sparkly and pink) around it.  It’s gorgeous.  I think the center is 3 carats – I was blinded, I swear!  She has this great olive skin tone and it just looks awesome!

Anyway, they have oodles of money but she wanted something non-traditional, something superior to a lot of gems (color, strength and fire wise, I guess) and that she felt good about environmentally.  I told her about this thread so I’m hoping she’ll come over and post a pic – it’s so amazing!

We’re not getting pictures soon..:( they still have lots of family to tell (Greek and Italian! :P) so they don’t want any pics online yet, even anon.  Totally understandable though!  She did say she plans on telling everyone that comments on it that its a Moissanite, explain the stone and what it is and the lessened impact it has on the environment…..she’s a tree hugger like me! Lol  She just feels like more people need to learn about the stone and how great it is.  I can hear her already….she’ll sound like a commercial 😛

Anyway, I looked around online and it looks just like this but with a 3 carat (I confirmed) and surrounded by little pink Moissanite stones (also confirmed).
